UPDATE BB salesman calls Direct TV and hands you the phone. He in no way is involved in any sort of approval process from DTV. So basically you can BS the call and hang up and say ok Im all set. I ended up getting: 50" 720p Samsung DLP (rang up $699.99) and Xbox Elite (Rang up $299.99) Total around $999 plus TAX. The DTV receiver is shipped by DTV to the customer. They ask for your cc over the phone. So be sure to cancel ASAP if you dont want to actually try the service. And its a 2 yr agreement as well!!! So buyers BEWARE!!!!!!!!! I did not however get the additional savings from getting the Samsung + Xbox $350 savings. Good luck! Time for FORZA 2 on my Westy 42" 1080P that I got thnx to FW over a year ago! DLP is for the wifey. |

Why not just do this? Add TV 1149 (-100 for price error) = 1049 Add DirectTV 99 (cancel within 30 days and return/sell) Add Xbox premium 349 Add Installation 200 ------------------------- Subtotal 1697 - 500 HDTV Complete Advantage - 200 Rebate ------------------------- Total = 997 + tax Return DirectTV receiver = 900 This way, you won't have to worry about the HD-DVD player YMMV issue. Pretty much getting a discount on the TV and a free xbox 360. |

what if you actually want to sign up for DirecTV? The only issue is that I would want a HD DVR. If that's the case, is it still best to do the deal like OP suggests (return the receiver) and then go through DirecTV after that to get new service? |

surprised it took until the second page for someone to make a 720p comment. seems like members are getting smarter.
there is no such thing as a 1080i native resolution fyi. i means interlaced. TVs that dont do 1080p native are usually 720 native and scale the picture to 1080.
at least if you are going to make a comment, be knowledgeable. Incorrect. CRT based RPTVs are 1080i. Dunno how many of those floating around in stores though. People obsess about the resolution way too much. Other details like color reproduction, blacks, and color accuracy are just as important. |

PROBLEMS (maybe just my area - St Louis) 1) NO BB in the area carries (or will again) the XBOX core system. 2) The 4% card deal with 0% for 2 yrs is dead. You can do one or the other - not both. Ballpark it adds about $200.... |

Same here. Just come back from BB. Problems: The Xbox 360 HD DVD player does not have the $100 discount. Confirmed. The installation shows $150 and delivery $50, two seperate items. Since the rebate is up to $200 installation, you might only get $150 back. The $279 xbox core system was sold out everywhere, at least around my area. Only the halo special ed or Elite available which is $399 or $450. The DirectTV plan is the biggest problem. You do not need to buy the top box to get the discount. BB called Direct TV and have you set up the account. However, two SKUs on the receipt: one for the HDTV plan, and ANOTHER ONE for DTV ESC CAPTURE PLAN. I do not know how they handle this if you cancel the service later. Charge your CC on file $300? Who will do that, BB? How do BB know that you cancel the service? Any suggestions? |

The DTV cancellation isn't looking to good if you have to talk to the rep yourself. I live in an apartment building that doesn't allow any dishes to be installed, so i'm very hesitant to give this a try. Thanks for all the updates guys... keep 'em coming |

Congratulation & Many thanks for sharing the info. However, do you suppose to get $150 discount for a combo Samsung DLP TV & Xbox ? Why didn't you get it ? Any reason ? mt3ch said:UPDATE
