In for one with $8 Printer (TY humane)...now deciding what is the best thing to do. Wait to pick it up and PM at that time (if deal is legit) or pick it up now and go back and PM. I am open for suggestions. |

I bought a Toshiba L25-S1192 on BF a few years ago for $249.99. It certainly isn't greatest laptop, but has been a more than adequate performer, and to boot I've never had to reinstall WinXP on it! I've had to do that to every other desktop and laptop I've owned due to WinXP deteriorating with bloat over time. Fyi, the laptop now has had 2GB of RAM installed in it as well as a 7200 RPM 100GB HD, DVD+-R/RW drive, and a 802.11n wireless PCI card. Hehe not much more can be done to it, unless I wanted to do a pin mod to it and overclock the CPU. |

Link please. Thx I am not that lazy...geez Although I do have a question....What type of RAM will I be looking for to fit into this Laptop |

I am open for suggestions. I'd pick it up at the opening Sunday morning. But only if the deal is real. You should know by then. |

I was planning on re-formating and putting XP on it... can anyone confirm/deny whether or not there are XP drivers for these devices/hardware? Naa. You oughtta be OK. The drivers might be tough to assemble, I'll grant you that. MS discourages manufacturers from making XP upgrades convenient for lappys sold with Vista. But if you're good with computers and patient, most likely you will come out OK in the fullness of time. The secret is to locate Gateway lappy(s), originally sold with XP, and having the same components as this one. You would have to go into your Vista device manager and copy down all the device numbers, then search for lappy(s) having those same devices. After that you go to the Gateway support website for the laptop(s) you identify and download the XP drivers you need. It's also very possible somebody already has done all this work and posted the "how to" on the net someplace. That's what happened for me with my new Compaq Vista lappy I wanted to upgrade. A little search time on Google and I was good to go. Good, that is, after downloading about 40+M worth of drivers! But in the end, everything came out just great. It was well worth the effort to get XP, and it was free. |

just in time as my wife was wondering if she could get a laptop... with only 512 ram, I'm thinking if putting Ubuntu on it, which should run very well as opposed to how vista may or may not run on it. At least I'd probably have to take off all the pretty eye candy, which really is the big difference between XP and Vista. [EDIT] vista basic doesn't even come with the pretty eye candy. haha |
