I read the instructions about one per month, but what if you give some to friends, or you eat with a friend that you have given one to, will it not get validated?

The certificate# is linked to your e-mail account, so it's still once per month. You can give it away of course, but that would technically be your one use for the month for that account.

I had 3 certificates left to one of our favorite local restaurants. We had to used all 3 before the month ended or they would expire. I used one for dinner. As we walked out of the restaurant a family of tourists stopped us and asked us if we recommend the restaurant. We said we did and would give them a certificate to use. They used it the same night and it worked fine (as indicated by the email that we got). I later used the 3rd certificate the same month.

That being said and done, it is no guarantee that it will work for you at your particular restaurant.

Not quite, the $10 Certs you mentioned are for $10 certificates, you can't use them to buy a $25 cert, only a $10 certificate at a restaurant in your area. (the $10 certificates are usually for lunch meals or fast food type places).

If you earned the bonus certificates, they should be parked in your account somewhere. Log In and go to MY ACCOUNT, look in the tabs the say gift certificates. When you find one, get the info off it (the code#) and use it to apply towards a $10 certificate you are interested in.

OK... I screw this up almost every time I do it (So it takes a few tries), but the basic concept is to log in, and look at your certificates (My account, then on the left there's a list - For me, I click on "restaurant.com gift certificates - 2007" right now)

Get the certificate number (I copy it), then click on the "Redeem your gift" tab, and enter the certificate number and the security code.

It will then dump you in a screen that allows you to look for restaurants. Find the one you want, add it to the cart, and when you go to check out, you will see a zero balance due (assuming that you redeemed the correct amount of certificates)

Let me know if that works. Right now, their server seems kind of touchy, but just remember to reddem the certificate before you start looking for the restaurant. Don't worry if you don't find one that time; if you don't use the certificate at check out, then it gets put back in your account.

Sorry.. MRCHEAP is right; I forgot to mention that. I spend $3 to get a $25 certificate, so I can use it to buy a $25 restaurant certificate.

You are stuck looking for $10 deals (There are a lot of those by me, but I've never gotten any)

I use these certificates constantly. I'd say I've easily saved $100s in the past two years and had the opportunity to try nice places that we couldn't afford otherwise. I haven't tried to use more than one in a month at the same restaurant. For those of you not familiar with the concept, make sure you read the terms. Most certificates are for $25 off of $35 and drinks are not included in the $35 total. Sometimes a restaurant will close before you can use the certificate but I have found that's rare. They are good for one year.

I bought a bunch of these when they were having a sale around Christmas, then printed them on nice paper and put them in a festive envelope and gave them as Christmas gifts. Good for coworkers, etc. It impresses people and you don't have to tell them you paid around $3 for their $25 certificate.

Nice way to find excuses to try new restaurants! Again, remember to read all terms as it might say stuff like good on dinner only, parties of two or more only, etc. Also remember to tip the waiter on the full amount of the check not after the discount.
