With all this talk of HD-DVD players....does anyone know of a HD-DVD player or Blu-Ray player that can also play DivX files? Now that'd be the perfect combo drive... |

I think the A3 deal may actually be the better one - or am I smoking something here? One thing that makes the deals a question mark for me is that you don't get to choose the movies, really. Of all the movies, there are only 2 I think I'd watch more than once. I can't imagine there's muc resale market for these titles, given the number of copies being given away. |

VRTS800 said:Yes BlueRay will drop the price to something like $299.99. But that is still not much of a competition. Unfortunately for Sony, BlueRay will be Beta II. You may mean Betamax XXIV-1/2. Don't forget MS, AIT, UMD, MD & DAT. All failures(in the sense of becoming "the next standard") My thought last year was: whichever player becomes affordable to the masses first will be the next "standard". It looks like we have a winner, unless sony offers a 50 dollar bluray player for BF. (yeah right) |

I just ordered and the box does come with '300' and 'The Bourne Identity.' I also picked up 'Hot Fuzz' and 'Transformers' as my other two free movies. And, I can still mail in the rebate form for 5 additional movies. So, I got the A3 as well as 9 free HD movies all for $213 after tax. That is a fabulous deal. I can now justify getting the a3 for $200 because of the four extra movies. |

BB won't pricematch the Sears BF Deal ($169 for the A3) because of the 2 free movies they're offering with the A3, will they? Id be tempted to do that because BB would knock an extra $3 off of Sears and the 2 free movies.. |

For those who say wait- they are forgetting the WalMart Rule- It is said- When WalMart offers a formally desired item for under $100 it is time to buy. However, if you are over 65- rule changes- under $50. Don |

That's because Sony sucks. You will be all over bluray player, if they go for $99! Wouldn't you? Both formats are good. Consumer is making decision based on pricing. |

Well, also keep in mind that the A2 is a discontinued model. YMMV on price/availability.
What I really want is a dual version drive for my HTPC, screw those standalone players and they horrific bootup times. There is a LG HD-DVD/Blue-ray DVD rom for $299. I think it is good for HTPC.. |

It's not really savings if you never spend money. You you wait forever to save a few buck but now you are a few generations behind.
Hey, did you know that the old Packard Bell 166Mhz computer I paid $3500 for in 1995 can be had for under $2 now? The argument with any decpreciating item is just dumb [see my example] It IS saving money and your logic is backwards. No one said they were waiting forever. The one constant in consumer electronics is that newly released technologies will improve or disappear due to lack of comsuner demand. For those that don't disappear prices will drop. Do you relly think those who purchased $500 DVD players in the late 90s got more value from them than those who waited 2-3 years and got basically the same DVD player or better for under $50? Those who adopt emerging technoogy early are ALWAYS the ones that end up with overpriced products a few generations behind vs those who wait a reasonible time. |

so bring it on! Just a little side note to the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray high definition format "war". Some movies available only on Blu-Ray in the U.S. are actually available on HD-DVD in other countries (the reverse is also true to some extent but Blu-Ray's region-coding gets in the way). Seeing as how HD-DVD isn't region-coded you can play discs bought anywhere in the world on your player. Check it out here: WSJ Online: Blu-ray vs. HD DVD a Solution Abroad /FYI |

I haven't bought any Sony junk in the last decade...why you ask? Because it's sucky junk. Hopefully this has cleared up any possible misconceptions for you. |

If it were 4 movies of my choice I'd be tempted. But I don't have any desire to own the 300 or bourne identity on HD-DVD, so it comes out to about $125 more than I paid for an A2. |
