i just want them to lower the price for the players so i can get both because some movies i like are hd only and some i like are br only.
so bring it on! Just a little side note to the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray high definition format "war". Some movies available only on Blu-Ray in the U.S. are actually available on HD-DVD in other countries (the reverse is also true to some extent but Blu-Ray's region-coding gets in the way). Seeing as how HD-DVD isn't region-coded you can play discs bought anywhere in the world on your player.

/FYIi'm in the u.s., so why would i care about abroad? and fyi, hd or br movies and electronics are 2 or 3 times more expensive than the u.s. so i really don't see the point in buying movies in hd or br from overseas. |

That shows how little you know about prices outside of the US. In various places in Asia, you can get HD or Bluray discs for about $10 each. |

I got the impression the price drop was just getting into the system since none of the cashiers knew about it yet. Also snagged 2 free movies (Transformers and Children of Men), plus used my 12% reward zone coupon which arrived in the mail today, so $176 out the door for HD player plus 9 movies! The register didn't want to take the coupon at first, but a manager came over and manually overrode the price. So check your mailbox if you're a Reward Zone member - 10% or 12% coupon can be applied to this deal. |

Again, your reply only to signify how ignorant you are about the market. AFAIK, there's no bootleg HD or Blueray out there....yet, the blank discs are more expensive than movies discs. Also, your concept of flying to Asia to buy discs is really impressive. Ever heard of the Internet? where you can order stuff and they send it to you? |

The whole BR/HD war is media hype. This is NOT LIKE BETAMAX VS VHS. The disks are the same size and there are ALREADY PLAYERS THAT PLAY BOTH. There's an LG internal PC drive for $270 when it's in stock that will play both formats. In a year and a half computers it'll be standard for players to play both. It doesn't matter which format you buy now because players already exist that are compatible with both even if your choice format "loses", which is unlikely, and you're kidding yourself if you think that most companies will choose to make players exclusive to one format when the HD/BR dual players become more mainstream. There was an equally heated "format war" over DVD-R and DVD+R and initially burners would only burn one. Nowadays the vast majority of players play both and you can buy media for both in most stores. Neither HD or BR are going anywhere. BR has more data per layer, but they already have been able to manufacture multilayer disks of both formats in the lab, which means for the near future it's entire irrelevant which format stores more. This is similar to how DVD-R is slightly slower and slightly cheaper, while DVD+R is slightly faster and SLIGHTLY more expensive, but not significantly. It will be the same way with BR/HDVD. So pick right now based off which movies you want to see and what they're available on or pick based off what's cheapest or which has the most features you want on the disk, but don't pick based on which is hypothetically going to "win" the format war because unlike President Bush and Muslims, it's possible for enemies to co-exist in the electronics industry. The only reason people think there's a format war is because there's media hype and stupid bloggers who have no vision to where things are headed say it is. You could similarly say there's a "console war" between the 360 and the Wii, but if you said that it would clearly be nonsense since neither are going anywhere anytime soon. Someone should really sticky something to this effect to the start of all HD/BR threads since they are supposed to be about deals and not about people proving how retarded they are and easily led by media hype. |

Can we stop this bickering about overseas movies and regions? Nobody cares and you are filling the thread up with this crap. Back on topic - does anyone know if the movies in the box come wrapped like the retail versions, so maybe we could exchange them somewhere for movies we actually want? |

thanks for reading! Short version, if the Denon can playback bitstream PCM and is HDMI 1.1 or higher, then set your DVD player to decode and output bitstream, and connect via HDMI to your receiver. Listen to Episode 14 of The Real HT Info Podcast for more on this. If the answer to either questions above is no, then get the A2. It will downsample Dolby TrueHD to 1.5 mps DTS over optical. The A3 will only give you Dolby digital at ~640kps. In this regard, the A2 is superior to the A3. Marshall ------------- The Real HT Info Podcast |

If they actually ship the HD-A3, this will turn out to be the best deal of all these deals. Clearly better than the HD-A2 for $99 at WalMart, because the HD-A3 comes with two free movies in the box. Also clearly better than the HD-A3 from BB for $199 with two extra free movies besides those in the box. |

Call them and have them change to pick up in store. I did it and they did it no questions asked. I got the confirm from the store that it is now ready to be picked up. It doesn't list the price anywhere on the confirm, so I can just walk in and get it!!! and id ont have to worry about it being cancelled!!! |
