Not good in CT, HI, NH, RI & VT

Buy with a rewards credit card for the best benefit

Tips on how to use gift cards:
- Actually give them out as gifts!
- Pay/Prepay your bills with them (Some cellular bills work).
- If you earn rewards (more than 1%) from your credit cards by using them at certain places (grocery/drugstores for example) DON'T use these GC's at those places! It is better to keep earning rewards from your credit card than to use the GCs and earn no rewards at all.
- Buy 1 store GC using all the AMEX GCs (Costco, WalMart, Best Buy, Circuit City) as long as it isn't a store as mentioned in the previous point. You can buy GCs online with free shipping and no additional fees for some stores.
- If you have a small balance left on a GC that you would like to use up, go to a retail store to make a purchase greater than the remaining balance, and pay the balance of the charge with cash/credit card.
- Buy a $25 Subway Card to get a free $10 movie GC ($10 GC is actually $8.51 net after fees). See terms for more details. Thanks collegerunner & MrVietnam.
- Buy a WalMart Gas Card. You save an additional 3% in gas this way, and it should qualify as a GC purchase instead of a restricted gas purchase. Can anyone confirm this works?

Tips on How to use the $25 Gadgetlovers Card
Supposedly this card expires very soon, and only works at certain merchants. If you want to get rid of the card ASAP here are some suggestions.
- CONFIRMED: Buy a Bestbuy $25 Giftcard online. Ships via 2nd UPS for free (select "standard" shipping though at checkout) Bestbuy $25 Giftcard Selection

List of places where GCs don't work:
- Telecom (i.e., AT&T Phone/DSL. Works for some cell phone bills, though)
- Verizon online bill payment (ATM in-store bill payment reportedly works)
- Amazon gift card (See workaround here, thanks KidCharliemain)
- Starbucks

Is the Gadget Lover's Card a regular AMEX gift card, or can it only be used at one of those stores?

I would say only at those stores listed.

The Gadget Lover's Card expires 3 months from date of issue (lose some time in the mailing) and is issued only in the name of the rebate submitter. Shouldn't be too hard to spend $25 at CC/BB/etc, but keep in mind this is a tight deadline to spend so this offer may not be exactly worth 100% of the face value unless you were already spending $25 at those stores anyway...

Did it. I'm sure I can use the gadget card at Staples toward a new ink cartridge!

Plus you can get rewards from the CC that you used to make the purchase, right?

Any fears of this being called a cash advance?

Do the gift cheques qualify and if so, can they be deposited to your own bank account?

I'm only giving up $2.50 in 2% rewards by using my $125 in gift cards. It explicitly says "gift cards (excluding personalized...)" in several places so I wouldn't take the risk myself.

CSRs will probably just lie to you to get you to complete the deal and you'll never know until 6-8 weeks later when your rebate form is rejected.

A tip of my hat to you if you have difficulty spending $125.

My last purchase of gift cards on my AMEX card was coded as a purchase and not as a cash advance.

Can these cards be converted to cash easily by doing a cash advance, eg: for the $500 cards ??
