"Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini Card [Included in Price]" Does this mean that a card "slot" is used up for wifi instead of it being built in? |

Does this mean that a card "slot" is used up for wifi instead of it being built in? I believe it means a mini PCI card that is plugged directly into the mainboard, and not PCMCIA (i.e. the external "card slot" which you are referring to). Answer: I don't think so. |

If anyone needs Quickbooks Pro 2008, apparently Dell is giving it away with an upgrade to Vista Business. |

one major advantage of buying an AMD notebook is... they all include better integrated video; usually perform 2x the Intel equvalent which will enable you to do some light gaming... if it is available, ALWAYS upgrade your videocard when purchasing a notebook and upgrade memeory later... |

For those asking about processor speed... Because you are looking for a DEAL, for $400, as long as you are getting a dualcore processor vs. a singlecore processor, you are getting a good bang-for-the buck speed-wise, in this price-range. Dualcore processors by AMD will out-class any of the single core processors [Intel or AMD] in processing power, and if you upgrade to the AMD TL version, you get both speed and battery life. The AMD TL version is close-enough to the Core-2-Dual that most people will never notice. They bench differently based on the applications you use, but again, not that much of a biggie when you are looking for a bargain. IMO, all single core processors are now obsolete, and should be avoided. Sometimes they are still placed in budget laptops, but now that we are seeing $400 deals for dual core laptops, you need to pass on anything less... With this purchase, I upgraded to the AMD 1.8ghz TL version & 6-cell battery because the battery life is a very noticeable factor. I would not have spent the money just for the extra speed, because the difference is not as noticeable, since you still get dual cores... Most $400 laptops deals, even on BF, will not give you good battery life... The nice thing about Dellz is that you can find a slew of OEM parts on Egay at any given time. With any laptop purchase, order NOW the built-in stuff that you cannot replace easily, like the processor & screen size. Then, if you hate the battery life, memory size, etc., you can swap that out yourself... |

does this have an S-video output? this is pretty important and it doesn't appear in the description anywhere. I have to imagine most laptops these days should have s-video output but would like to clarify. |

That is their crappy service or BS.
Come on, get real - Dell does not have crappy service. About the only ones I usually hear say that are the ones trying to take extreme advantage of Dell and getting a little push back on it.
Sorry to disagree with you but I own three Dell laptops and one desktop and their service S*CKS bigtime. I have three desktops and one laptop and I too have had HORRIBLE experiences with Dell's service. They still owe me ~$160 that I'm sure I'll never get. $60 has been owed to me for almost 3 years now and the $100 is a price match they told me they'd give me but never did. I bought an HDV camera from them and they dropped the price the next day. They told me they'd credit my account as soon as the camera was delivered. I stupidly accepted the delivery instead of return/rebuy and they f-d me over. |

Was setting one up this past weekend, removing some junk that Dell pre-installs...wow...10 minutes and a reboot to uninstall the 30-day trial of Norton?!? What the heck is it doing all of that time? Also, the laptop itself looked and felt cheap....subjective opinion, but I use Dell laptops at work (Inspiron's), and have a Thinkpad at home, and those are sturdy...even compared to the low end Acers the Vostro loses in my opinion. That being said, the screen was nice, and the battery seemed strong. Great deal, but some of that price (in my opinion) is reflected in the fit & finish. |

There is no such thing as a performance laptop period. There are laptops marketed that way, and cost big bucks, but compared to a PC they suck. Laptops just don't have enough heat dispersion and room to be a high powered rig. That being said the only people who need whats considered "high performance" these days are gamers and perhaps Adobe suite users. Amd vs intel is moot. Get the best deal you can on a computer, save the extra money for another upgrade in 1.5 years. This method will keep you working with the best performance/price ratio. |

I have to imagine most laptops these days should have s-video output but would like to clarify. I'm pretty sure they don't. I know the 1501's don't either but the 1420, 1520&1, 1720&1 all do. BTW, my estimated shipping date is 11/28. |

Yea I'll second all the upgrade the battery (or plan to buy another one) comments. A 4-cell battery won't last too long.. then after you use it more.. it really won't last long. |
