Dell small biz has Vostro 1000 AMD athlon 64 X 2, 1gb DDR2 RAM, DVD writer and 120 GB HDD with Wnidows Vista Basic/ XP for 399$. good review for this laptop. better than most of the BF deals. Rather than waiting in line ....Perhaps only better deal is the Sony Vaio. What do you guys think of this deal..... BF DEAL KILLER !

This makes $399 for the Asus eee laptop look like a foolish investment.... hmmmmm
Nice deal!

Never consider a AMD inside laptop... it's not the same performance as a desktop.

This isn't really a performance machine; it's a budget machine - and for $399 you can't really expect a performance machine. For those who just need an inexpensive laptop to carry with them, it's tough to beat this price.

If I was looking for a performance laptop; I'd go for a C2D processor, but this one certainly has its advantages as well (price, decent specs for the price)

isnt an AMD more power concious compared to intel? so would i be safe to assume that nthis would have reasonable battery life?

Not necessarily (although I haven't read any of hte lates comparisons on the mobile cpus, so it's possible). One thing to note is the default battery is 29whr - don't expect more than an hour of life with that one - if you need more; get an upgraded battery (thus increasing both the cost and weight).

But you must remember it comes at no charge with"Dell HELL".

That is their crappy service or BS.

Come on, get real - Dell does not have crappy service. About the only ones I usually hear say that are the ones trying to take extreme advantage of Dell and getting a little push back on it.

I haven't really payed much attention to proc's recently, but as of last year the AMD mobile chips consumed less power than intel's and also ran alot cooler then intel's as well.
Of course those 2 kinda come hand and hand. And definitely get a bigger battery for it.

yikes, really only ~1 hr of batt life?

Is there an XP option? How do I get to it?

xp only with the 399 laptop, not 449

If you upgrade the battery. I ordered a Dell C2D with 17" screen. The 9 cell battery is going for over 8 hrs.

Thinking about this machine heavily...Is the 9-cell really worth it?

price isn't bad, but the battery sucks. if it was a 6 cell, i'd buy a few and sell them for $600.

i'll pass this time. thanks though.

wouldnt it be better to get the 9-cell battery from fleabay? it'll cost about $80ish but this way you get two batteries......(upgrade battery with Dell is $70)

any opinions on TrueLife?

got one!!!

DOUBLE POST

Good Point...

forgetit

Personally, the only upgrade I did was go from a TK --> TL processor for battery life

no resolution increase just a glossy screen that hinders your work with massive amounts of glare!

But at least it looks cool.

Ewww! 29 WHr battery. Expect 1.5 hours of battery life tops. Still not a bad deal for $400

The CPU upgrades are NOT worth it.

Overall good deal IMO.

Thanks OP! I only wish it were available with Windows XP. Also I'd configure it with a larger battery and pay a little extra since 4 cells isn't going to get you very far while unplugged.

not $30 good....

on a side note RAM obviously needs to be upgraded so I bought Kingston 2GB ( 2 x 1GB ) PC2 5300 667MHz 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 Laptop Memory - KVR667D2K2SO/2GR for $34.95 AGCO

Good deal to give as a gift. In for 1. Thanks

Here is XP

i took one with extended battery for 30 $ extra and yes both the options (XP and Vista) are available. thanks for the memory link dude ! I guess way better than standing in line for Compaques and Acer's with rebates galore and routers / software etc. Only worth laptop is BB Sony Vaio, but that is also a stripped down version from retail ( C2D to Pentium Dual Core). Also it will be finished off in no time.
Anyone has idea if any other online deals are there for BF. thanksgiving?

tempting, thanks op!

Link for the XP version.

Good Find OP! Seriously thinking about this one...

Not to sound like an idiot, but any option for an Intel processor at this price?

When I configure the XP version (longer battery, Works Suite) and add it to my cart, I get the weirdest cart detail:

Does not support server-based networks.

It lists it like it's a discount.

Is anyone finding that this laptop is crashing on them? I checked Dell forum support and found a few others with the same problem (those who ordered in november specifically).

It appears to be an ATI VPU problem. I'm not sure what to do about it but I'm kindof pissed off.

COLD DEAL!
