Dell small biz has Vostro 1000 AMD athlon 64 X 2, 1gb DDR2 RAM, DVD writer and 120 GB HDD with Wnidows Vista Basic/ XP for 399$. good review for this laptop. better than most of the BF deals. Rather than waiting in line ....Perhaps only better deal is the Sony Vaio. What do you guys think of this deal..... BF DEAL KILLER !

This isn't really a performance machine; it's a budget machine - and for $399 you can't really expect a performance machine. For those who just need an inexpensive laptop to carry with them, it's tough to beat this price.
If I was looking for a performance laptop; I'd go for a C2D processor, but this one certainly has its advantages as well (price, decent specs for the price)

isnt an AMD more power concious compared to intel? so would i be safe to assume that nthis would have reasonable battery life?
Not necessarily (although I haven't read any of hte lates comparisons on the mobile cpus, so it's possible). One thing to note is the default battery is 29whr - don't expect more than an hour of life with that one - if you need more; get an upgraded battery (thus increasing both the cost and weight).

That is their crappy service or BS.
Come on, get real - Dell does not have crappy service. About the only ones I usually hear say that are the ones trying to take extreme advantage of Dell and getting a little push back on it.
I haven't really payed much attention to proc's recently, but as of last year the AMD mobile chips consumed less power than intel's and also ran alot cooler then intel's as well. Of course those 2 kinda come hand and hand. And definitely get a bigger battery for it.

wouldnt it be better to get the 9-cell battery from fleabay? it'll cost about $80ish but this way you get two batteries......(upgrade battery with Dell is $70)
