EXPIRED: ONE DAY ONLY. You must buy Microsoft Office 2004 Black Friday. The 2008 upgrade you get from Microsoft is the full version with added media capability. Get this $100 rebate valid Friday only.

NOW EXPIRED: Buy Microsoft Office 2004 Student and Teacher before January 14 2008 at Amazon for $125 (or Staples for $130; potentially FAR @ Staples with coupons). Or, buy it at any other authorized Microsoft retailer (these 2 are simply the cheapest and easiest). Must buy retail boxed version; no OEM. This software is not just for students and teachers; it's simply a slightly crippled version of the full product.

Then send in this $6.99 upgrade form for a retail boxed FULL UPGRADE VERSION of Office 2008 Special Media Edition worth $475 from Microsoft when it's released in January.

OR

Submit for the upgrade here.

Total out of pocket $140 or less unless you bought Office on Black Friday.

Note that Staples does not normally stock Mac Office in B&M stores, so on line is probably your best bet.

The 2008 upgrade is the most robust version available... will work with enterprise Exchange and give you full Apple Automator capabilities. The 2008 Home and Student version will not, so this is an excellent deal. Microsoft Product link.

I already have 2004, but will be buying it again just to get 2008 cheap.

More info on the 2008 versions from ArsTechnica.com.

Updated 1/16: I received an email tonight that the Office 2008 Special Media Edition is on backorder and I need to contact Microsoft and specifically state I want them to ship my free software, not matter how long it takes to ship, otherwise they will cancel the order! You can either respond to the email (if you received it) or else call MS Customer service at 506-694-4328 to let them know you want the software. No action will result in your order being canceled, so you need to respond by email or phone. Also, the MS website does NOT indicate my software is on backorder but still says "in progress."

======

Upgrade Options...
OPTION ONE (best for business folks): Office 2008 for Mac Special Media Edition (includes 1 license for business or personal use, also includes Exchange Server support, additional Automator Actions plus Microsoft Expression Media for Mac)
OPTION TWO (best for multi-Mac households): Office 2008 for Mac Home & Student Edition (includes 3 licenses for home or non-commercial use only; does NOT include ExchangeServer support or Automator Actions) + Microsoft Expression Media for Mac

System Requirements
To use Microsoft® Office 2008 for Mac you need:

* A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (500 MHz or faster) processor
* Mac OS X version 10.4.9 or later
* 512 MB of RAM or more (1 GB extremely recommended!!!!)
* 1.5 GB of available hard disk space
* HFS+ hard disk format (also known as Mac OS Extended or HFS Plus)
* DVD drive or connection to a local area network (if installing over a network)
* 1024 x 768 or higher resolution-monitor
For Office 2008 for Mac and Office 2008 for Mac Special Media Editions: Connectivity to Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 or later is required for certain advanced functionality in Entourage 2008.

======

Also, you might be able to stack it with this rebate to also get Office 2008 for Mac Home and Student Edition for $10 USD by using a copy of the box top; however, Microsoft rebates do not normally allow this. So, huge YMMV on this one. You may not want send this one until you've got the other approved, or you may get this one approved and the other disapproved (and that would suck).

any FAR fillers @Staples

Great Deal! Can't pass this one up!

I wouldn't be expecting too much bad behavior from MS on something like this, but the $100 rebate asks for the front page of the user manual. I bought Student Teacher 2004 a long time ago, but don't recall that there was any paper manual. It was a disc in semirigid sleeve in a box. Maybe the current versions have one?

Anyone know what time is 11/23 for Staples, is Pacific/center/east time?

Every FAR filler in the ad is in-store only and they probably wont have this software in store. Anyone know if there are some other FAR fillers that aren't advertised?

I'm guessing EST since thats the time their coupons expire.

So it means EST for Staples, and PST for Amazon, it this right?

For what it's worth, all of my email confirmations on purchases from Amazon show PST.

I'm on the east coast so I guess I'll be attempting to stay up til midnight and order from Staples....

Too much turkey, too much pie.... Damn You FatWallet!!!!!

Printable invoices on Amazon do not have a time... Just a date, which likely rolls over at midnight Pacific.

Do we have to purchase the teacher and student version from Amazon or Staples to qualify for the $100 MIR and free Office 2008 ?

If you have a coupon (or buy one from Fleabay)- possibly a $30 off $150- add a filler if necessary to get it cheaper.

alert mods

$129 - your coupon = $?

- $100 Rebate

A S30 off coupon would make your net cost $0.

Coupons are rare, and Fleabay ones are usually bogus or fraudulent (and which can get you blacklisted at Staples, or your order canceled), so don't get up up in the FAR aspect unless you already have a valid coupon.

Never had an issue with Staples coupons from eBay. Just buy from the users who use instant shipping and that have over 1000 feedback (there are plenty). I've used probably a dozen or two of these coupons and have not been blacklisted, if you're worried about it too much then just make a new account for each order, you actually might have to do this because they limit you to one coupon with the same first 5 digits per account.

You can get a 25 off 100 coupon right now, better than having to add fillers to use the 30 off 150 coupon.
