Saw this alternative deal when I looked up Shortacash's roadrunner post.

11.28 Update:
1) Was called today by VZ-service active Dec 7 or b4.

2)Also, when I wanted to replace my ancient Westall 6100 b4 addding slingbox, VZ wanted $100-drove me to check other services (yeah, VZ sucks that way). If like me, you don't currently use a router, then consider the one they give you as additional savings.

3)Roadrunner (TWC) signup page in NYC says only 384Kb upload, which is why I took this deal instead of switching to RR. However, if you prefer RR or can't get VZ, TWC CS did offer me a straight $30 a month (already am TWC customer for TV) for 1 year, which is not a terrible deal, normally $45/mo here.

Are you serious?
600Mb upload/2700Mb download...your line must be, at least, an OC-3 level ???

Well I just saw this today as well and was about to cancel my CRAPCAST since they didn't have hgtv and was getting the triple play for 110/month after tax.. then they offered me cable+ internet for 64.99 + bonus preferred channels when I told them I was going to cancel and goto verizon. But overall still good deal Opee

I called Verizon to cancel my existing DSL service. The rep offered me this speed at 19.99 (with one year commitment).

I think this option is better for those having existing DSL service from Verizon. This way, you don't have to go for loss of service during disconnect, wait and reconnect.

Crap.... no verizon where i live I have to pay $60 a month for Cox. What a rip... I should start looking for other services.

I think the right units are kbps: kilobits/second. Divide by 10 for kilobytes. If you are thinking that a byte has 8 bits and not 10 you are correct, but the transmission protocol has overhead.

comcast is doing the same $150 off promotion.
the differences are:
Pro,
no contract
slightly faster (6MB)

Con,
42.95 after 6 month
got to be a cable TV customer.

that was for 6 months. just called. then it will go to $34.99

Technically, this is not accurate. Comcast 6MB is shared between all your neighbors.
So if there are 10 neighbors connecting at the same time, the speed will be 600Kb/sec.

Plus, it is a very big security hole, since you all are in the same “LAN”, any one with a little network knowledge and the right software tool can hack into any computers in his LAN “neighbors”. I learned that the hard way. Verizon is an end to end connection; no one can see you unless you invited them.

That’s my 2 cents.

Agreed. So you're better off getting the $150 and shelling out $20 for the router.

ok, I called cancellations and said I'd rather not cancel to get the CC offer-- BUT....--- VZ offered 6 months at $19.99 , I hesitated and then CSR threw in one month free, so I accepted. Then it's 29.99 until the next good offer comes. No mention was made of a one year contract. I am not currently on a contract- but just month to month at $29.99 for the last few months after my last FW-inspired VZ dsl deal ended. I have only a 1.5 mps down capability line. Thanks OP.

This $150 Cash Back less a $19.99 one time fee may actually be worth the canceling and being without DSL for four days (assuming you have no other access) especially if you can get a higher speed. (not sure if you would lose your email address-- a big pain).

Also, like OP said, --- enter another tel number in the search block if you have DSL on that line or the offers won't show for VZ-- very crafty. I am in NO VA.

phone of VZ 1-800-567-6789 at least in my area.

Shhhh...

Somehow Verizon is only charging me the old $14.99 for my DSL (768 down/128 up) And currently the going price is $24.99 for the same speed! My neighbor has it and is paying $22.95.

Must depend on when you sign up. My neighbor signed up 2 months after I did and yet he is paying more!

LOL.

alert mods

That is totally true.
Right now in my area, Germantown MD, Verizon offer $14.99 with 2 year contract, then it will be locked as the price for life.
the speed is only 768K down though.

**************
Update 11.30 Equipment arrived.
Do NOT install their bloatware. Ever. Trust me. You'll be sorry if you do.

DO go to verizon.com and set up your preferred account log-in name- this is PERMANENT-so be careful.

AFTER this is done, use on-line chat to get your temporary password so you can set up a PPPOE connection, with or without a router.
Took me 15 mintues of chat with a rude, stupid overseas CS rep (Note: when I was grad student in physics, Ivy League school, some of the very smartest guys were from South Asia-don't be prejudiced-too bad VZ just hires idiots no matter where they are from), to get him to understand that this is for VZ itself-not the router password! Maybe you will have better luck.

Finally, back to Verizon.com, change your password to something sane.
Set up a PPPOE connection with control panel so you connect w/o the router if you have to.
Power on router, attach, reboot.
Open browser window, go to http://192.168.1.1/, configure the router for PPPOE.
Reboot and check connectivity.
You are done!

I signed up at CC for this and the rebate that printed out was for $50. Also, on my CC receipt it is showing as DSL1YRGTD2 which is not the same part number identified in the $150 rebate. You need part number DSL1YRGTD, no 2 at the end. I signed up for the 3m plan, not the 768k. Did anybody sign up at CC and get a receipt with the correct part number? Thanks.
