im planning to jump on this deal... Step one: cut a hole in the box... Step two: make a copy of that UPC you just cut out. Really, just find the rebates by offer number on Staples', Symantec's, or McAfee's website, and follow the instructions. |

Because there is wide margin of error ($300 to $400). So even if they reject few rebates, you still come out ahead or in the worse case scenario break even with a free Shredder/PC. Besides it is fun.
Not true. They're not advertising a free desktop, the "free item" it's talking about is a printer. You would need to get back more than you paid for MANY of the pieces of software in order to cover the cost of the PC. Plus, that PC is worth nowhere near $400, so if you end up having to pay $400 for the comp and get all the software for free, you've pretty much been screwed.
I did this 3 times on the last crazy deal and it's a ton of work. I sold the laptops and made almost $1K for each one I did all told, but it's absolutely not worth doing for just some free software and a free shredder. I think I'm going to sit out based on what I've heard they're doing with the rebates lately. I never said they ae advertised as FAR. I agree with you that it is not worth doing this deal without at least a Laptop as the risk of rejected rebates is high this time. However that loss in rebates can be compensated by using 20% off softwares and $$ off Staples coupons. |

However that loss in rebates can be compensated by using 20% off softwares and $$ off Staples coupons. Fair enough...I was just trying to point out that if they do adhere to all the terms of the rebate, you'll end paying (net) tax on all the software and you'll have to pay for the computer. Sure, the 20% you get off instantly will take care the tax and even pay for 1/4 of the desktop, but you may have ended up doing a ton of work only to get a small discount on an overpriced desktop and a bunch of free worthless software. There is real risk that people will end up having spent a net of $200-$300 even after all their rebates come. |

I am not sure if this is just me, but the rebates seem to be MOSTLY for 2007 items. Staples (at least the ones near me) do not keep these in stock once the 2008s come out. I looked at the 2008 versions and they dont seem to have the same rebates.
Anyone else notice this, or anyone else have any ways around it? I would really like to get in on this deal Thanks

Thanks Where do you see that? I found these rebates by searching for the 2008 versions where possible, or else the rebate terms didn't specify a version. I wouldn't be too surprised if many rebates were intended for the 2007 versions, but where does it say they're just for that? |

Looking up the Norton rebate by offer #, all (that I've looked at) require the original UPC, so that kills alot of them. And the rebates are good for 2008 products. |

In the WIKI section in this thread, it mentions the 2007 and also the SKU number. Anything NORTON and MCaffee that start with a 6 sku are 2007 versions. 2008 start with a 7 sku. I know this because Tyler knows this... that and I just ran my ass down to Staples saw the SKU numbers myself. Also... Staples rebates are specific to SKU numbers. I dont think that a 2008 purchase would qualify for a 2007 product since they are SKU specific.
If you notice Staples has all of the 2008 under different rebate offers.

I've had the same question. Most of these look like new dates. I'm also trying to remember how much of this needs to be on the same receipt. I've been reading through the rebates and it's not clear. Or, there's no mention of the same receipt. Texas8 said:Can we do it again if we have done it last time with the 50 rebates and a laptop deal let me know or pm me |
