Hey, gang!

I've been monitoring http://www.shoponkyo.com/frequently for a bigger/better receiver deal and one just popped up!

Of course, this guy is on the truck as my 2007 Christmas present. Told my wife and then remembered I should share with fatwallet. !

Drawing on Innovation and Performance to Complete a Remarkable Home Theater System
Many home theater systems are designed as an “add on” to HDTV. With little thought or imagination, these systems detract from rather than enhance high-definition home entertainment. With generic amplifier designs, limited playback capabilities and inferior parts, they are little match for the range of A/V formats, sources and technologies on offer today. The HT-S907 is a completely different proposition. With the TX-SR604 7.1-channel A/V surround home theater receiver and the DV-CP704 6-Disc DVD/CD/MP3 player providing video and multichannel audio via today’s ultimate transport, High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), this system will effortlessly transport audio and video signals in the digital domain. Some stunning innovations, like Audyssey 2EQ™ to correct room acoustics and a Neural Surround™ decoder to bring groundbreaking XM HD 5.1-channel satellite radio, elevate this system into a league of its own.

Special Features

HDMI Simple Solution: 2 Input / 1 Output on AVR, 1 output on DVD

Excellent sound with Audio CDs and Movies, December 18, 2006
By V. Gundepudi

This is the first time I am installing a home theater. I did it okay with color-coded wires. I have calibrated using auto calibration suggested in the manual. I listened to audio. It was excellent. While watching movies I found that auto calibration's center speakers is set on higher side and sub woofer setting to lower side than to my liking. I have called Onkyo support and asked them for suggestion, they told me that I can change setting to my liking and still it will not affect the room acoustics point of view. Therefore, I did it and watched Lion King with my family. We all liked it. My kids enjoyed sound effects saying the it matched the movie theater level.

Some have pointed out that wires provided are too thin. To my basics knowledge thin wired still transmit only thing is that they have more resistance. One may opt for monster cable 14 gauge. I am going to change speaker wires shortly with that. I do not have HDTV. Therefore, I cannot say much about DVDs up conversion feature.

Over all very satisfied.

Superior sound and ease of use, December 11, 2006
By Pria "Ipod lady" (Houston, Tx)

I checked out all the home theater systems offered by Onkyo and this is certainly the best out there for your bucks. I checked the system out in Fry's before I bought it in Amazon. Amazon shipment and delivery was well before on-time and it came in crisp and clean. Wonderful and easy to setup.

Onkyo technical support center was worthless....you are better off, taking a day or two to figure the connections/setup yourself. Not that difficult.

Excellent sound quality...the intelli sound and audyssey auto calibration of speakers is just fabulous.

Enjoy!!! Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)

Awesome System, July 7, 2007
By JMG (AUSTIN, TX USA)

You can't beat this kind of system for this price. 1000 WATTS, 7.1 Surround, 6-DISC DVD Player. Very Happy with this purchase.

It shows $499.00 for me, even after logging in. Am I missing something?

You get 10% more when you checkout.

It's a little awkward, but, hey! this baby listed at $1000!!

Looks like all are gone...

sry..spoke too soon.

dgoedken,

Try again. I was able to put two in my cart just a minute ago (didn't buy them and cleared the cart).

Great gift for myself, cheers

subtotal: $499.00
- promotion: $49.90
- Onkyo Points : 10
+ Tax : $36.23
+ S/H: (GROUND) $0.00
$475.33

the one downside there *may* be..the HDMI may not support vers. 1.3a I has HDMI...but if not 1.3a (or higher) may want to spring on a different deal...

That said...still a pretty nice HT

Confirmed...only HDMI 1.2 since they say it's through-out is 5gbps, 1.3 is 10.

hdmi link for throughput

This is a great deal! I only want the 604 itself though.

Any player or game console output 10 gps?

I know a lot of centrifugal pumps will do 10 gallons per minute.

I claim no expert knowledge but make the point that if buying and spending the bucks...may want to "future-proof" what you buy.

That said wiki says:

Both introduced in 2006, Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD offer new high-fidelity audio features that require HDMI for best results. Dolby Digital Plus (DD+), Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio use bitrates exceeding TOSLINK's capacity. HDMI 1.3 can transport DD+, TrueHD, and DTS-HD bitstreams in compressed form. This capability would allow a preprocessor or audio/video receiver with the necessary decoder to decode the data itself, but has limited usefulness for HD DVD and Blu-ray.

It's a great deal....true...but some A/V snobs may see this as a stopping point.

ahh, sorry just got that joke Little slow today on a conf. call ... multi-tasking..fixed the "gps"

I was thinking of jumping in, but found it new for $516:http://www.highestpro.com/product_info.php?products_id=4119, makes me think twice...

Is this HDMI on this passthrough only? One of the reviews on Amazon described it that way.

Got it in the cart. Need a good system, is this one it???

This is an excellent deal and I can guarantee it will be dead later today. I own the 5.1 channel version of this system which I paid about $50 less for. The sound is excellent. I have everything hooked up with HDMI. The limitation mentioned in an earlier post in regards to HDMI version 1.1 versus 1.3 is really of little importance. There are no devices on the market that support the enhanced v1.3 features yet and even if they do arrive they're of little importance. The included speaker system alone retails for $399. In my opinion this is a much hotter deal than buying the 605 receiver alone for $300+-. There is no system on the market under $1000 that would compare to the quality of this system.

Thanks

I emptied the cart.

Dang, I'm nowhere near that Fry's. Is that Fry's price national?

I bought one for $439.10.
One year warranty, so I'm not concerned about it being a refurb.
Onkyo has a good reputation with their refurbs.

Green!

This should help everyone to decide about the HDMI spec. being important to them or not. http://hdmi.org/learningcenter/faq.aspx

It could be national, just check your local newspaper ads. FYI, I got the last one from the sunnyvale Fry's.

None in local Chicago store.

Not @ Fishers, Indiana Frys.

Grabbed one
Sub Total : $499.00
- Promotion : 49.90
- Onkyo Points : 10
+ Tax : $34.03
+ Shipping (Ground) : $0.0
Total : $473.13

Sprung for one. $439 is a good deal, even better when you count the speakers and dvd changer. If you didn't tell me it was only hdmi 1.2, I wouldn't ever have thought about it.

Onkyo site says it HDMI 1.1

As predicted it looks like they have sold out. A hot deal while it lasted

OOS

Nice run while it lasted!

Too bad those 500' of Monster cable got cancelled two weeks ago.
