'They' accepted the 'copy' (i'll add ymmv in title).

When I walked up to the counter, I was prepared to walk out, if they would not honor the coupon. The counter clerk, with floor manager standing next to em, accepted the copied coupon without much pause. (they did have to enter the coupon number rather than scan the bar code.) This would make it twice now (thankfully), that I have made use of this coupon in my area. Once each from two different store locations within my area.

The encouraging point is, if you have been shopping for such tech (NAS) and reconize this as a worthwhile deal, to give it a shot

Nice that you can buy this out the door (with rebates) for $160.

Here is a chart comparing throughput speeds of different NAS boxes. Compare this one to the HS-DH-250GL (250Gb) version for throughput benchmarks.

Quick Summary below taken from smallbuilder.com here

If you compare the LinkStation Live with the LinkStation Pro, you'll discover that the cases are virtually identical, with Buffalo changing only the color scheme. The case of the LinkStation Live has an attractive gray finish, compared to the black case on the "Pro".

Good deal.

For those who aren't planning to hack though, look at the reviews on Amazn of this model compared to the Pro models. The Pro models cost more and skip a few features, but people seem happier, so maybe the stock firmware/software running on the NAS is better in the Pro.

If you go down to only 250gig drive, you can get Pro from Amzn for $184 shipped, which may be similar price after paying tax before the rebates.

Guess it depends what features you want, what kind of user you are, and if you can make the coupon work at CC.

Thanks OP. I've been in the market for a NAS...I'm tired of running a full computer to do exactly what this will do.

I wound up using the AAA 10% coupon to save $30 instead of the copy, and I chose free shipping to save my time/gas.

This way, I don't have to spend the time potentially arguing to get the coupon accepted, and I don't have to drive 30 minutes each way to give it a shot. Had my nearest CC been <10 minutes away, I would be posting a different story. But for me...especially with the 8 inches of snow we just got...this made the most sense.

AAA and FS FTW!

What do you guys use to back up these NAS devices? What's the cheapest NAS solution that offers built in redundancy (2 drives for mirroring)?

I plan on attaching an external HD to the device and running a backup script. ...assuming that it treats USB connected HDs as external devices.

I have not done a lot of investigation into RAID and NAS...but most I have seen get quite pricey. Here is one that I saw mentioned in a review on some site while looking into this deal: Maxtor Shared Stoage II
I have no experience with it and am by no means recommending it...but it might be a good place to start.

Thanks for the find. I picked one up. I used the AAA 10% off coupon code, then applied the $40 off $200 in store when I picked it up. Hopefully I'll still be able to get the $100 in rebates.
