25 cents at my local stores. $1 is really expensive.

I re-lamped with these several years ago and none have gone bad yet....
the 4 new ones I have may never be needed.

Where can you get these for $.25? That's cheap, even Sam's or Costco have them for more than $1/each.

For areas without subsidies from a power company, I've never seen the bulbs for less than a dollar. The cheapest I've seen before is around $11 for 8 bulbs from Costco.

With an overall rating of 2.9 I wonder what people don't like about these?

Features 3.3 - It's a light. Does it provide light? Does it raise the garage door?
Value 2.1 - At 98 cents each this is probably much better than regular price.
Design 3.8 - That is a good score for design.
Quality 1.9 - Are these that bad?
Ease of Use 3.4 - Are these that hard to use? I prefer the self-installing type.

The quality rating is what is dragging the overall rating down. I wish Lowe's would let you write a real review instead of a rating. But then there's editing and whatnot so I do understand.

$2-2.50 each for most non-costco places in San Antonio and Austin, TX

Thanks OP.

All of the low priced ones are subsidized by the local electric compnay, packaging should state that.
Now I wonder why WM never has them.

Some CFL bulbs don't come on instantaneously. I have a bunch of CFL floods by FEIT that take like 2 minutes to "warm up" before they provide full brightness. Totally useless for use in the hallway where you want to really see where you're going as soon as you turn on the switch. I always see them on sale at my local Dixieline but I'm not buying FEIT CFL products anymore.

only soft white or is there a chance for day light bulbs too?

I heard forming opinions based on what "is heard" is also bad for you.

Here's a question: the $10 off a houseplant coupon, I've heard that it can be used on houseplants less than $10...does anybody know if it takes the discount off of just the plant or the whole order? If so, you could buy a plant less than $10, add in a couple of bulbs and give them the $10 off coupon and get it for free/next to nothing.

Just a thought.

From Wikipedia:

Broken CFLs release mercury vapors, and require special handling to clean up. The EPA warns against vacuuming, suggesting instead that you vacate the room and open windows for fifteen minutes to allow any mercury vapor to air out, then clean up the breakage while wearing protective gloves, and use double plastic bags for all broken pieces. They suggest using duct tape to pick up small pieces.

FYI: By 2014 CFLs will be required by law to replace incandescent bulbs. Now, how healthy will that be?

nice. got a few.

Vegas or Alanta!!!???

Not worth the $300 in gas!

$1 is warm.

The Meijer turn in a burned out incandescent for a new CFL for free was HOT!

I have these same floods in my kitchen. They're nice in the morning when you're making coffee half-asleep, but go full flamethrower after a minute or so. But I like 15w vs. 65w R30. I tried fluorescent globes in the bath, but the warmup time killed the deal there.

Reading this thread made me remember the Stop and Shop FREE BULBS deal awhile back... I still have a cabinet full of bulbs ...

Wow, I must have missed that. When did Meijer run that promo? What state? I don't recall seeing anything for the Meijers in the Detroit area.

winco was selling same bulbs (4 for $2.98. both 13 and 17 watt which is equivalent to 70w). I bought them last weekend. It is written on it that it is smud (energy company) sponsored. I bought them in sacramento area

Bright Effects Reviews

Almost pulled the trigger on these.....

Same here I bought some for $1.28 you flip the switch and walk halfway in the room before you get any light

Reviews said: I have replaced several of my standard bulbs with bright effects bulbs and have had the same problem like everyone else. Got up the other day and turned the light on and it blink two times and then caught fire.

Hahahaha, sounds like Lowe's is having a real FIRE SALE on these!

Are these bulbs or self-lighting candles???

duh! You are suppose to put them in the light sockets - NOT EAT THEM!!!

Wow... 75 bucks to ship a tiny 98 cent lightbulb? But if I got up to 99 bucks (aka over 100 lightbulbs) then it would only be 4.99 shipping... how does this make sense.

I picked up 4 today. I bought them along with a cheap plant, used the $10 off a plant coupon posted elsewhere, but the $10 was taken off the entire order so these were free.

Update: Some stores are refuting the coupon and the Lowes computer system marked it expired as of yesterday. If you live near a store where people are abusing the coupon you may not have any luck, otherwise just point out that it doesn't expire until the 31st.

A little bit (over) optimistic and I cheer you. All mine from 5-years ago are beginning to burn out now and this deal is the god-send. Who knows, maybe new technology (or smart manufacturing) is in place and this batch will never gone bad :--)

Precisely what is "abusing?" answer: the way you used it...

Anyone recommend a brand that comes on full force instantly?

Can you please buy me a few and send them to me?

Thanks.

It looks like these are FEIT bulbs although one reviewer said otherwise. I suggest you spend a little more and go with Sylvania (which Lowes did carry, probably still do) or GE's version. You can get the GE's at WalMart and Target and prices have dropped quite a bit on them.

I guess if you die from fluorescent lighting than that is the only way to REALLY know if its true.
But then what good is it?
