I just picked one up after reading about it online at a contractor's forum I visit. The HD sku is 670-549. It's a half-pint version of the 5 gallon unit that sells for $299. There's no info on HD's website about it, so I don't know if it's an introductory price or a closeout. I don't think it's a closeout because I've never seen them before. It is super-light and REALLY quiet, especially for an oil-free type. It was the only one at the Absecon, NJ store, and there are no others in the South Jersey area. It's only got 1.9 cfm @ 90 psi so it's not going to run an impact wrench or sander, but it will be perfect for trim guns and such.

Ridgid Info Linky

Might have to go check this out...it would be a good unit to use to change golf grips. thx!

this should be perfect for my airbrush. If i can find them here...

Should put store name in title.

You only mention HD, but should mention by it's real name to: Home Depot.

here is a link to the 5 gallon version at $300

Made for Rigid by Maxus.

Words out and it seems all are taken in N. CA

Thanks, OP.

Shelf tag shows price of $49, marked down from $179.99 at the HD in San Diego (Sports Arena). None on the shelf, system showed 3 - none at any other stores in San Diego. I walked past the tool area, and found a high pallet with a label showing two. It took about an hour for someone to show up with a fork lift that worked to take it down - snagged both of them.

Home Depot great deals, but the slowest site on the web. I think I'll go and rotate the tires while I'm waiting.

I did get in on the electric fireplace deal last night.

Score!!! Atlanta metro area. Called (to check stock...I know...NEVER call) and they told me (very quickly) that none were in stock anywhere in the district. Asked when SKU 670-549 went on clearance, she said on 30 January. Instinct said check anyway...well, my wife (expert shopper) found three of them up in the overhead away from other compressors. Rings up $49.00 -10% military discount made it even sweeter. 2 brand new in box are left up in the overhead rack. Happy Hunting and thanks OP.

Wondering about the safety of aluminum tanks and explosions.

Went to find one on the way home, first at Watertown and then Waltham MA - no luck.

No-go in northeast Garland, Tx.

SCUBA tanks are aluminum and are rated at 3,000 psi. I think these will do fine at 135.

Most portable oxygen tanks are aluminum also and holf over 2000psi. Theseshould be safe.

I picked up the last 2 at the Oakbrook Terrace, Il store for $49. They were on the top shelf by the other compressors and had yellow sale tags that read $179.99. I was at the Downers Grove, IL store before OBT and they show 4 in stock, but they honestly can't be found. There were 2 guys from the Westmont store, the tools associate and myself looking to no avail. They were also $49 at that location if anyone can find them.

Thanks for the post OP. Does anyone know if these are eligible for the Ridgid lifetime service agreement?

There wasn't a LSA form in the box, but it does have a 3 year warranty.

I have a 5 gallon pancake compressor, but bought a refurb Campbell-Hausfeld version of this compressor at $49 at Andersons last year to use stapling chicken wire into floor joists at a mobile home 600 miles away. It worked great, and would easily have handled any job I've used the pancake for with ease. Frankly, if I had my choice I'd go with it as it is so much easier to lug around and store.

Thanks OP,

I picked up 2 at the Wheaton Store. I checked myself didn't see any checked at the service desk, and they said they had none, but found 4 at Downers Grove, they called over and the guy who answered laughed and said they been looking for them all morning. I then went back to the compressor aisle just to be sure, and found one up high mixed with the new ones. As they pulled that one down the guy helping me found another on the floor. I took both, one for the father in law.

Thanks again.

Thanks OP, picked one up in today. Computer said they had 3, had to search the rafters to find it. They actually had 4. $49.00, awesome deal.

None showing in stock in the SW Chicago burbs. Orland Park, Frankfort, Joliet, Matteson, Crestwood, etc. Good deal for those that get one!

Shipping would cost almost as much as the compressor.

Now if anyone could recommend any accessories for this compressor to work on my own car.

This is only strong enough to fill the tires. Might work an air ratchet, but definately cannot power a air impact wrench.

Found @ Belleuve, WA. just when I was ready to get out the door, the guys were pushing a pallet of it to the left side of customer service. I snagged 2.

Check out H.D. site, it said when you register with Ridgid, you'll get life time warranty !!!!!, Thx OP for a good deal, GJ.

For most tools that run somewhat continuously, like grinders, impact wrenches, etc. you'll need about 6 cfm, this is only 1.9. But it still has plenty of uses, trim nailers, even larger framing nailer if you aren't popping of nails every other second. While most of the heavier tools won't work, some will, they'll run for a short burst, and you'll just need to wait for pressure to build.

4 left at HD SSF Colma store $53 out of the door, good luck getting them and thanks OP!

my first post to fatwallet

got one at HD hwy 100 & national West Allis Wisconsin. As in previous post, they indicated zero inventory but I found one on the shelves about 3 isles down from where the compressors are sold. Great deal!

Thanks OP X 2!!

Traveled an hour last night with the fam to Champaign IL for dinner & stopped in at HD to check for one. Told the wife I was gonna run in & check the heaters. Found one on the middle shelf with yellow 49/179 tag. Since I obviously couldn't buy it then & there....(wife & kids were in the car, remember?) I turned the box 180 deg. to expose the $179 tag & hoped it would be there this afternoon. Well I go in this afternoon & there is this young couple standing in front of it looking at all the compressors. I asked if they were going to buy that compressor & he says, "no". I breath a sigh of relief as I placed it in my cart. As I'm checking out the accessories I overhear them comparing prices & he was holding this little dinky pancake model and the lady says it's like $79 or so. Now, I'm starting to feel guilty cause I've already got 3 compressors of various sizes and this was just gonna be a free upgrade after I sold my B&D hobby compressor. (fatwallet deal from 06') Just as I was contemplating on giving them my deal, I wondered if there were anymore. I glance up & spot 2 more boxes, 1 new an 1 open maked display. SCORE!! As I roll my cart past them I say something to the effect of, "This here's the best deal on a smaller compressor." He asks, "How much?" as he glances at the white $179 sticker. I flip the box to show the yellow clearance tag of $49 & I swear they had that 'deer staring in headlights' look. They both gave me a very genuine 'Thank you'. My good deed for 08' is done, now I can relax. I just feel so darn warm & fuzzy inside.

Oh yeah, the open box with display sharpied on the side was left there. Again, that was @ the Champaign IL. HD. You just might get an additional 10% open box discount. YMMV on that though.

Bought one at Chandler, AZ. They had just only one in stock.

Bought one too, pretty neat little unit. Be great for all those small tasks where dragging around the huge compressor on wheels is so cumbersome. I've got two 50' hoses on that monster, and even then using it where needed has been a pain.

Ran about 30 long brad nails at the speed I work at no problem. And the air nozzle did just fine for about 90 seconds with a quick recovery after that; perfect for my needs.

This little brother's great. Thanks, OP!

None of the Home Depots South of Chicago and North of Springfield Illinois had any.

The Ridgid website has an area to register LSA products, and although they list pneumatic tools, unless I missed something, they do not have any of their compressors listed.

Someone's gonna be pissed.

My wife tracked one down in McKinney TX that was getting inter-store transferred and bought it before they could load it on the truck.

Whoever was too lazy to drive to the store lost.

donkeyboy - can you PM me with the Atlanta store where you found this?

Slickone:

Have seen it a number of times where the computer says 0, but there is some stock that they missed when they last took inventory. Not as accurate as one would like, but that could work to your advantage. Most people, check the computer and walk away. Some will walk the aisles, find it sitting on the top rack that nobody saw.

Slickone said: Is it possible a store could still have some if the computers show no stock? They showed me the computer showing close to 10 stores nearby, all with a 0 for stock. But I wondered since several others in this thread are still finding them.
