At this price point, this is one of the best things going. You must have a much higher price point that you are willing to pay. I am happy as a clam with this machine. |

Anyone who picked this up, make sure the bios file is updated right away. After having to do a system restore a day after getting it, I got the dreaded "password" issue again this morning. I ended up returning it earlier this afternoon. I'm not dealing with this crap. Toshiba never mentioned updated bios files when I called them Tuesday. Actually, never mentioned anything about it today when I called either. Found the info from someone on the computer forum here that pointed me to several messages/articles about it. |

Isn't updating the bios rather straightforward and easy to do. Yea, I think it's just a matter of doing it. Problem is, once your computer is locked, you have to do a complete system restore before being able to update the bios. I already spent time doing that once this week, I'm not taking the time to do it a 2nd time on a 5 day old computer. For $150 more, I got the HP on sale and I think it will serve my son longer than the Toshiba will. I just wanted to warn those of you who haven't yet had a problem to do this so you don't end up with the headache I had. |

Found the info from someone on the computer forum here that pointed me to several messages/articles about it.If the computer was manufactured after (8/6/07) and there was no warning about the password lockup, you may have some remedy perhaps by lawsuit: Toshiba (8/6/07) Bulletin: [Edit] The above link worked when I posted. Go here: http://www.csd.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlView.jsp Tech Support Center, A135-S4666, Support Bulletins (The new page changed the dates.) "If the problem has not happened yet, you can prevent it from happening in the future by upgrading the BIOS to the newest version." "If this happens ... The computer will be unusable until this problem is fixed." "If this problem does occur, it will be necessary to send the computer to a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider, who will fix the problem at no charge to you." (The above bulletin is for A135 model, but there should be similar one for other models.) |
