Downgrade your Compaq Presario C700T from Vista to XP.

Step 1) create recovery discs

Step 2) Compaq Presario C700T has a SATA Hard Drive.

Here are the instructions to disable the SATA:
1. Restart the computer and start tapping F10 key
2. Choose System Configuration tab.

4. Save and Exit the BIOS by pressing F10 key.

Step 3 ) Drivers - Here are the drivers for C700 Model with an Intel Processor.

Download all the driver and burn to a CD. Then use the CD to install the drivers after XP is installed.

Do not link these....copy and paste into browser.

Will the be online at TechDepot?

Do you have sku or CTO #?

I'm willing to bet that there will be a lame $100+ shipping charge and you will have to wait like 2 weeks for this thing to come from china.

Its on the front page of next week's OD ad. Looks like its not online.

Configuration Code is 80409061 - so looks like you can order in store. They haven't specified what the shipping charge is.

If it's instore then why would there be a shipping charge?

Correct me if I am wrong. I think you order it in store and they will ship it to you. This could be one of those with expensive shipping to make up their cost deal.

Usually OD charges $69 even $99 for shipping.

same old technique they use to make to price look good but after s/h tax ect.... the deal is no longer good.
you order in store they made it and ship to store so shipping-from their info not mine. They use to charge $99 for s/h they change to $49 and then $99 .....

Comes with a DVD burner.

However:

Heck of a lot better deal, except for the size/portability factor, than the hot-selling Asus EEE.

Is it not going to be available in store? Or is it going to be available for "shipping" only? Anyone who has the ad can fill us in...

thanks!

Ground shipping right now is $19.99 on 80409061

Shipping cools the deal a little, but shipping is usually $40ish (not $100). The way it works is that you must go to the store, order it at the Tech Depot kiosk (again...cannot be done from Tech Depot at home)...then you print out your receitp from the kiosk, take it up to the register, and pay. Then they ship the laptop to your house a week or two later. So, this deal will probably end up costing about $340 + tax on $435.

Also, don't bother looking at current shipping prices or upgrade prices on Tech Depot...they will change some or all of those for the deal on Sunday. I'm assuming that the OPs upgrade costs came from the ad, so those are probably right, but for anything else, you can't tell until you go in store.

This type of deal has surfaced in the past. It only gains momentum because of the advertising that catches the eye of the public with the low AR price. The rest of the tack ons are in the fine print.

Bottom line is this lappie will cost you at least a $100 more than the price you see due to:

1. the ridiculous shipping charge _ about $60
2. pre-rebate tax which is huge thanks to OD's continuous fling with huge rebate amounts - around $40
3. for CA folks only, an added $8 in recycling fee

So, please for a moment, don't be gung-ho about a $299 price.

I like that number, but where do you see that?

FYI right now shipping is $49 on the HP/Compaq website.

best buy has $399 laptops every now and then with extra freebies like $50 off printers, free printers and such. Don't reward OD for their shady marketing.
