Because Apple products are very unreliable. Google up the failure rates. You'll be surprised at how high they are. For a while, 1 in every 4 Macs had to be returned due to failures.
Funny, the pros who figure these sort of things out by using reliable research rate Apple #1 in product failure rates...meaning they are the lowest. 1 in 4 macs?! I'll take the word of companies whose bottom line and reputation depend on accurate data over internet echo chambers any day. Stick to reliable data and not hearsay, you just look silly otherwise.
For someone complaining about hearsay, you spout a lot of it yourself. Where are your links for these "pros"? Here's mine, http://www.macintouch.com/reliability/. JD Powers...the source for info like this. Also PCMag and other sources that use reliable ways to measure such data. http://www.applelinks.com/index.php/more/apple_the_lexus_of_pcs_macs_ace_pcmags_service_and_reliability_survey_again/ User submitted data is about the least reliable way to measure such rates. the internet attracts distgruntled users and the 'echo chamber' effect mangifies the perception of problems. As they say...GIGO. Garbage in, garbage out. |

Called my local MI store. They had no idea about the promotion. I was just hoping to get lucky. I bought a refurb 8GB from Apple last week. Any ideas on how to get apple to pricematch? |

As they say...GIGO. Garbage in, garbage out. Ah... You realize that the link you provided is data from a user submitted survey right? So it's the least reliable way isn't it? I see no difference between that and the link I submitted. Both are just surveys asking users about the reliability of their machines. Here's the internet link for the pcmag survey http://survey.pcmag.com/. You know what they say about internet surveys. If anything it's less reliable since they are not doing a random sampling but limiting the responses to a certain population. |

If anything it's less reliable since they are not doing a random sampling but limiting the responses to a certain population. I had done a quick search for the JD Power numbers and that came up with it. Didn't look too much, but the results were the same as JD Powers. Forget the PC Mag survey and the fact still remains that Apple has the fewest failures in the industry and the best service when failures do happen. No link, but for several years running this is the result from the folks who have the best reputation for these numbers. Feel free to look it up yourself. I know I've seen it and my own experience has been great. So nothing more I need to do to prove to myself Apple repuation. Convincing others...not really a concern of mine. |

I too, have had very few problems with apple products going back to the early ipods. I have had maybe 10 different apple products and have only had 1 issue. But to each his own. |

I have a suspicion that Apple is going to lower prices by $100 on Thursday. That would partially explain why the price of this refurb is 100 less than Apple's current price. If the drop occurs, Apple will have to give a credit or something, otherwise they are going to get back hundreds of used, refurbed iphones 10% restocking fee or not. It will cost less to by them new even with the fee. But, that is only two days away. |

Funny, considering I've had about 12 apple products between computers and iPods and had zero problems. It seems your random statements and numbers you made up are wrong. |

May be due to all the iphones being unlocked. At least this way, they get to keep the difference if you do not sign a contract. |

This would be helpful to apple and ATT is they wanted to stop people from using other carriers. It wouldn't prevent it, but it would deter it. I am surprised they did not do that in the first place really. |

I am surprised they did not do that in the first place really. Apple never expected that many iphones to be unlocked. Memory prices are falling too. So if Apple decides to go the rebate route, they could make almost as much off the sale of the iphone even if it gets unlocked. |

I posted a link or did you just decide to ignore that. Wow. I must be wrong if a few thousand people experience one thing and you experience another. Of course the world revolves around you. 12 apple products? Wait to you start buying for real youngin. That is so like an Apple user, buy an iPod and join the cult. Just make sure you don't drink the koolaid when they bring it out. I have every class of Apple product since the Apple ][ including the ][+, the //e, the ///, the Lisa, the first Mac, the Mac SE, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah MacBook yet I avoided the brainwashing. |

I think your opinion is that there is some evidence that Apple products don't have great reliability. Thanks for the input. I think we are in this thread because we are interested in the deal. Your point has been made, now let us discuss the deal and make up our own minds as to whether 1 in 4 iphones will break upon receipt. Let's put this behind us. |

I bought the iphone when it went down to $400 back in Aug. and it was my first Apple product. I was please with it since I wanted a phone and mp3 player in one. But with the latest firmware upgrade, I'm really pleased with it. I live in LA and the traffic is a big deal. So when Apple updated the google maps to show your location and you can search for anything and it will show you how to get there and provide a map of the traffic condition, that made the phone well worth it for me. It has come in quite handy for me and I just went on a trip to Utah with my buddies and we used all of the phone features(especially google maps) and they were all very impressed with it. Some of them even said that they will get one. My only complaint is the safari network is not 3G and the phone may need a reboot once in a while.I have own over 5-6 phones and most of them are high end phones and this is definitely my favorite. So basically what I'm saying is if you can get it for $250, definitely jump on it. |

Hope this info helps for some one who bought iphone in AT&T store and had to give your info. In case you gave your CC Card number and SSN, but you did not get a phone number and did not sign any contract you are good to go. You need not worry about anything and just use the phone. In case you were forced to sign sign a contract and got a phone number, means that you officially got into AT&T. Even then you can still call AT&T cancel your contract with in 3 days, pay nothing and keep the phone. If it is past 3 days and less that 30 days you will have to pay activation charges and have to pay pro rated charges. I bought 2 phones I had to go both ways. Hope this helps. |
