dhanush said:Hope this info helps for some one who bought iphone in AT&T store and had to give your info.
In case you gave your CC Card number and SSN, but you did not get a phone number and did not sign any contract you are good to go. You need not worry about anything and just use the phone.
In case you were forced to sign sign a contract and got a phone number, means that you officially got into AT&T. Even then you can still call AT&T cancel your contract with in 3 days, pay nothing and keep the phone. If it is past 3 days and less that 30 days you will have to pay activation charges and have to pay pro rated charges.
This sounds really good... Has anybody else done this? |

I bought the 8Gb Iphone for $249+ tax. I do have a contract with AT&T, but I insisted that I do not want to renew my contract. They agreed and gave me the phone. Now, that I have it, how can I use it for another carrier, or even AT&T but on pay-as-u-go? By the way, I bought at 745 Broadway NY, cross street Astor place. |

Hey, I go to PSU as well and am trying to desperately find one of the refurbs at an AT&T store. my local store in the south hills has not heard of the deal. Do you know where in Pa there are some? |

Gosh, i wish they would that. Made a second attempt in a different store. They wouldn't budge and insisted on opening a new account or add a line. They are doing instore activation. I have 2 lines. The only other possiblity was to add a line(activation waived) and cancel the existing second line. Which means i have to lose the number. If i cancel the newly activated line, i had to return the phone it seems. And this applies only for the refurb iphone. klovej2 said:I bought the 8Gb Iphone for $249+ tax. Luckily, I walked out without signing anything. A sale's guy asked SS number, and then I paid for the phone with my credit card. But I did not sign any paper. I felt that I was lucky. |

Thanks, unfortunately I'm at the Erie campus. So just driving to UP to get one would almost offset the price difference from getting one from Apple. |

I found an 8GB at King of Prussia mall but the CSR wouldn't let me buy it w/o a new contract. I don't think it's worth for a ding on my credit report even if I can cancel it later. I can just get a new 1 from the Apple Store in DE w/ no sale tax. |

Yeah, I heard they were at king of prussia but that's some 5 hours away from me just to save $100. I've heard of a lot of people being able to get them without a new contract, i guess it depends on your salesperson. |

I saw some people talking about signing up for the 2 year contract and then cancelling in 3 days. The rep I talked to said we would have to return the phone, but she also mentioned that we could cancel over the phone. Has anyone tried this and had any experience? Also, are they actually signing me up at the store or are they just checking my credit and allowing me to activate on my own? |

That's exactly what i was also told. As for signing up, they are activating in store. You will be assigned a number, as if you would do for any other phones. Today, in my third attempt i went to the att store around closing time. Asked for a 8gb refurb phone. Asked for the phone number and charged $249. Got the pack and walked out of store. Didn't expect this to happen at all. I was prepared for the activation of a new line and all that hassle. Came home and opened the box. There it was without a blemish. Installed itunes Inserted my old att sim card Checked the version to be 1.1.3 Started ziPhone 2.4 with UI Unlocked in couple of mins Soon after, detected the network and dispayed cingular Made a test call successfully. Am so happy with it. |
