ATT stores have refurbished IPhones on sale. The 4gb is 199, the 8gb is 249. In store only, as far as I can tell. Limit 1 per person.

They took my name and e-mail, but activation should be done at home via itunes. Picked a 4gb up for the gf.

Mine didn't include the simcard, so if it's a new activation you'll likely have to get one from the store.

you have to sign a new 2 year contract if you want to add the unlimited data plan to your existing att account, or to sign up for a new account.
OR

You can use the SS# 999-99-9999 when activating your iphone to get offered the gophone pay as you go option without a contract.

OR

Use Ziphone to unlock your phone to use on T-Mobile or with your existing att sim card, or without a sim card, and just as an ipod.

hot. online or local?

I'm guessing local. Can anyone confirm around the Houston area?

.....ft

new activation or sublease 2-yr contract required.....

no use for me.

Local and only in the NE region. Only for new lines although some stores don't pressure you into entering into a new contract. I got mine without signing up for the 2 yr contract, YMMV.

been on SD a while now. only a few select stores in the northeast region are running this deal.

...and you didn't post it here on FW because?

So no way to get in on this on the West Coast?

Any store in Long island NY?

Saw the $199 sign at the King of Prussia Mall in PA. Good deal!

Any stores specific in NewEngland, atleast whether MA, NH etc?

No 249 models?

BTW, I found mine in PA

Did you have to open up a new account? Is this only for new activations only?

Does the store charge for a sim card?

I would like to walk out of the store with an iphone and a simcard for $249+tax then go home and activate it.

i bought the supposed 'last one (8GB refurb)' at 745 Broadway NY 30mins ago.
who knows, maybe just a ploy to make you come in. ask for 'levy'..

I called and they said you can extend the current contract by 2 years (not 2 additional years but 2 years from the day of purchase). If you have any other plans (like a family plan) you can pay $20 more for the unlimited data.

Any stores in SFO bay area?

Did they tell you the refurb was for new contracts only?

thx,

What option do I need to add to T-Mobile's family plan to get unlimited data(internet)?

Is it T-Zones Pro?

Anyone know if this can work with prepaid?

-g

Looks like Northeast or New England only

also, does anybody know if T-Mobile To GO plans can have an option for internet/data ?

Yes, just sign up for TZONE for $6 a month, but you need to do some hacking on your iphone 1st.

Excuse my ignorance but is this better than getting an Ipod Touch? Just doing a quick google search tells me that the only difference is that the iPhone is a little bigger and of course has phone functions but are there any other significant differences? For example, my friend at work has the Touch and I thought it was really cool that he could put old NES games on it but I wonder if it is possible to do with the iPhone as well.

Okay.
Great deal.
I just got an 8GB from the 745 Broadway store.
$249+tax out the door.
I already have an att account.

I do too. But you can't put another phone's sim card into the iphone. Did you get a new sim card from the store?

745 Broadway? Manhattan? New Orleans? Shanghai?

Just went to two ATT stores in midtown Manhattan and they confirmed that the refurbs are only for new contracts...

Thanks for the headsup anyway, at least it got me excited for a while on this gloomy monday morning

can anyone confirm the warrantee period? 1 year is standard, but I've heard 30 days for these.

All Refurbished products form Apple have 1 year of warranty, but for iPhone in order to get it you must have an active account (new account/service/contract), if you unlock the phone you will loose the warranty.

These refurbished iphones must be either returned by customers or defective phones repaired by Apple/3rd party. Makes me wonder, why so many of them are available as refurbished.

Does that mean we can buy the refurb phone with a prepay plan without signing any contract in the store??

Thanks.

In theory. I havn't tried it, but it's floating all over the net.. if you use that number, you'll fail the credit check and be offered the pay as you go plan.

It's strange that some stores are only selling these with new activations. The store I went to said nothing about activating it there. They only took name and e-mail i assume to enforce 1 per person. Either my store or those stores are misinformed about the activation requirement.

Edit to add: the phone looked new, not a mark or fingerprint on it. it wasn't in the standard Iphone box, it was in an orange att box, but all the accessories were included: Dock, cable, AC adapter, headphones, book.

this seems a YMMV deal....

anyone in upstate NY able to get this deal?

FYI with ATT you can sign the 2 year contract and cancel it later (just don't make any call) within 30 days, you do not have to pay the $175 termination fee. This is an ATT Policy (remember cancel the service but tell them that you want yo keep the iphone), a lot o people did that few months ago

The iPod Touch doesn't have the phone and bluetooth components. People who get the iPhone are actually looking for a phone. For those who aren't, they just by the iPod Touch.

None available near my place(NH). They knew about this, but expecting some shipments. Another store on my way to work has it, but wudn't allow without activating instore and only for new subscribers. Just walked away.

Because Apple products are very unreliable. Google up the failure rates. You'll be surprised at how high they are. For a while, 1 in every 4 Macs had to be returned due to failures.
