FYI: It appears that there has been a batch of defective unit in which the compost will not go down the curing tray. Unfortunately, I got one of those with defective latches. if you are having this problem like me, you can contact them to get a repair latch kit to fix this problem for free.

It is not too bad. I took mine out to my back yard and turned it upside down. After I remove the compost, I hosed it off using my hose at full power. It did not smell after that.
