Wow, talk about barebones. No OS, 512MB RAM, 80GB HD, DVDROM, no mouse/keyboard...

At least it's only +$69 for a modem.

$69 for a modem, I bet it works at 1000 Gbits/microsec LOL

Its a server. Why would you need a modem in it? Yeesh

298 bucks gets you 2 Gb of ram and 160gb hard drive. Hot for a small server. Thanks OP

Actually you can get this for $288... choose 2 x 1GB instead of 4 x 512MB.

Modems are still used, believe it or not. Mostly for faxing or remote administration in case the other methods are down. And believe it or not, there are millions of people that cannot get broadband, so they have to use the next best alternative to access the internet.

Even better deal is to pick the 2 - 1GB memory sticks for 19 bucks more. If I needed a new server right now, I would be all over this. I would also need to see how many SATA ports/PCI/PCIE/etc (but have no need for this so not making the effort). Too bad this wasn't available about a month ago!

When you consider it's easy to blow $600 on a firewall appliance or a Windows Home Server, I think this is a good deal. $606 gets you 2gb RAM and 160gb RAID 1 storage.

And yes some people still use modems. I have one hooked up to the server at work so it can be accessed even if there's a problem with our internet connection and/or VPN.

Tax and shipping really takes away from this deal. That said, it's better than the last T105 deal that rolled around. 2GB upgrade now only $19.

You guys crack me up every time this modem discussion comes up. Remember, only 50% of the U.S. has broadband available. There are people out there that still use modems.

We have modems in a server here that people can call in to to check their accounts. The modems are also used to automatically notify customers as well.

Any idea on the energy efficiency of the PowerEdge? Would it run ~55-75 Watts in a headless WHS configuration with say 4 hard drives?

I was just looking at shipping. Cheapest option is $19.99.

I gotta ask,

Does it have an AGP slot?
