Sure. You can cash in reward points(accumulated by card usage) for a Dell coupon, if you have an American Express Gold or Blue card. |

yep, this system will only take 1.8V RAM. and the Dell BIOS doesn't allow and adjustments in this area.greyhavns said:clearanceman said:greyhavns said:doesn't the 530 MB require only 1.8V memory chips? your offer for the crucial 1.9V won't work will it?
1.9 800mhz Corsair works at 800mhz. Not sure about Crucial.
no what i mean is that the 530s motherboard i thought only supported 1.8V memory. therefore, if the crucial requres 1.9V, it won't work cause i originally had OCZ Gold at 2.2V i think and it wouldn't boot up until i read on the forums it was incompatible. so, with that being said, can it be confirmed this memory will work on the inspiron 530 motherboard? |

I got this system last time around and made the plunge in vista. Honestly I'm impressed. It ran fine with 1gb of RAM, but is now nearly flawless(so far) with 3gb.orion23 said:clearanceman said:Admiral Ackbar said:Hmmm.... Dunno if I should go with Xp or Vista. is the performance hit with vista really that bad? I don't have any vista PC's so it would be nice to get one now that the service pack is out. But this rig would probably be primarily for gaming and a little bit of programming. Myn understanding is that Xp is better for that.
Any advice.
Go with Vista. XP is a dead end for gaming because of direct X 10. I made the jump and it is ok. It's not better than XP but acceptable with SP1. And direct x 10 really is vista only. Some people say it can run on XP, but it can't consistantly.
Go with Vista! Very stable, secure and with support for many years to come. I started using Vista the 1st day it came out, 01/30/07, and never looked back. Been gaming since then with no issues @ all.
XP is somewhat faster for gaming if you are an IDIOT who counts FPS instead of enjoying the actual game. |

Question for the FW community... This seems like a great deal and I'm considering jumping in. However, I don't need a new computer right now. I'll need one within the next 3-6 months. Do you guys predict another deal like this (equal or better) will come along within that time frame or am I pushing my luck? How often do deal like these come around? |

Dell is really hurting right now. they are laying off tons of people to re-organize into more competitive markets. so yeah it will happen again, because Dell is going down. they used to be #1 now they are not. Dell gives away product to win loyalty and first rule of FW there is no loyalty except to the deal of the moment. 24" can be bought for $299 all day long the pc is probably worth $350~ its an okay deal; good deal; but not fire hot. if it was $399 with a 22" then yeah that would be fire hot buy 10; but this is great if you need to upgrade now. the Q6600 cpu price has dropped so much that we'll probably see quad core celerons in the next year or 3 core (built from defective quads) celerons. honestly man my box i've never seen it peak out a single cpu. the drive is too slow and with 2gb of ram vista is swap mad. i even have a microsoft turbocache 2gb stick it's not any faster than a single cpu or core 2 duo imo for typical use. p.s. teh hotness is royalty oem dvd vista ultimate recovery DVD FTW if you need that o/s that is. |

p.s. teh hotness is royalty oem dvd vista ultimate recovery DVD FTW if you need that o/s that is. Thanks for the response. I would be purchasing the base Q6600 system with the 24inch monitor, and upgrade the ram to 4GB 800MHZ within a month of purchase so I'm not too worried about the ram. Also regarding the O/S I'm not worried because I have an extra Vista Ultimate license laying around. I understand that the monitor is only worth $300 and Dell is charging $440 but with the discounts, you're getting it near the $300 mark anyway. I'm not really sure how you feel that this PC is only worth $350. I really can't see being able to build an identical PC for around this price as I have tried to spec it out. Even with all the greatest FW deals on the parts individually, I wasn't able to come near $400 for an identical PC. I belive that it makes sense that Dell's BULK purchasing power has us typical consumers beat in this regard. I think in my case this purchase makes sense however it's really just about timing for me. I may just hold off for the next one and hope that I can match or beat this deal with Dell or any other similar competitor. Building just doesn't seem like good option when the price is THIS good for a similar spec PC which would be used for typical day to day stuff - not really any gaming. |

Thanks OP! Just bought my new office computer. $690 after the coupon with the nice monitor, gig of ram (will upgrade), intel video (i don't play games), the top processor, and a nice logitech mouse/keyboard kit to push the price into coupon territory. I know, I know, bad buy - but nothing else on there I wanted, and the artic silver looks alot nicer than the grey that Amazon is pushing for the wireless peripherals. I'm excited! Gets here in roughly two weeks and I'll be flying. Thanks OP! Any RAM recommendations out there? looking for 2 GB, easy to install. Thanks. Best, John |

Do the Dell DPA 4% need to approval for credit. If it didn't approve, will the order get cancel? Or do they let you pay cash? |

No, this is the hottest its going to get. The cost of a similar pc will increase in 3-6 months. Look at the Tandy's that were selling in the mid/late 1980s for $3000. We have now hit rock bottem in pcs and they will turn the corner and start going up from now on. 3-6 months this same config will be $1000+. 3-6 years it will be $2k, and up we will go!!
