not yet, actually my fan seems to be stuck at 100%. I tried downloading a bunch of different drivers, but still no luck. the fan/heatsink assembly is pretty well enclosed and I tried looking through the fins to see if I could find the fan connector, but without unscrewing the cover, I couldn't really tell. I'll try to work on it some more this weekend.

Check the link below. I read that the fan is very quite and has a 4 pin pwm. Have you had any luck with rivatuner? Seems like it should work. 8800gs

I don't play any games at all. Any chance this thing can hook up to HDMI with sound pass through like this one: Diamond Viper Radeon HD2600XT 256MB PCI Express Video Card $30 Only, I'm afraid of what people are saying about Diamond products and with the $50 rebate. Would this 8800GS be overkill for what I need from it? I wanna spend under $100 for my video card.

This will do the job, but it's very much overkill. An 8600GT scores ~90 in HD HQV (100 is perfect) in just about every review I've seen. That's what I would get for HTPC. The HD2600XT might be good too, I don't really know since I haven't read any reviews about them.

I would only buy this if you plan to play games.

Yes an 8800 an favor is overkill if htpc is the only concern. And if one desire hdmi over audio, go ati. Ati is a bit faster in this arena when it comes to avc hardware decoding. I would recommend a 2600 pro, or even better, grab the 3470 or 3650. The old 2400/2600 runs hotter and not quite as fast as the newer 24/36xx series, but they will also work just fine for hd dvd/bluray decoding. Newegg and other places have tons of those card below 50 bucks now.

If one does prefer nvidia, go with at least a 8400, preferably an 8500 or 8600, but don't expect hdmi over audio.

And last, if doing hdmi audio, make sure to buy the right dvi to hdmi adapter for the radeon cards as the regular ones will NOT work.

And a note those planning to use it for mkv, not all are encoded correctly for hardware acceleration, so you are better off getting the fastest cpu you can.

Yikes, I will be very disappointed if this is the case with mine. I returned an XFX 8800GS a month ago because the fan was 100% all the time (really noisy). Have you tried nTune?

just got for 1, I wonder hot to get PriceGrabber $5.00 Rebate for Review, it seems the link has only $30 rebate
Thanks op

PG seems to be dead. It was only available for the first 25 people who requested the form.

I purchased this card. I have played Lost Planet DX10 on it, runs really well, even at very high resolutions, but I did have to turn shadow detail down to medium in order get fps over 35 average. As far as the fan, I don't hear it.

If you purchased the Dell inspiron 530 deal a couple weeks back, it fits, I didn't even have to unplug the serial cable, was snug, but it fits.

Just to let you guys know, I just ordered, everything went through but I didn't receive an email. I called them and they said they were OOS *but* they will be definitely be getting shipment from today until the 23rd. Since the rebate needs to be postmarked by July 3rd, you should be fine here -- you can probably request 2nd day if you're paranoid.

However, you HAVE TO CALL AND PLACE YOUR ORDER ON BACKORDER OR IT WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED:

Very favorable review with benchmarks and overclocking here.

I ordered one of these but also did not receive a confirmation e-mail. I'll be calling them tomorrow and placing a back order. Does anyone know how good EVGA is with their rebates?

scored 2 in Fry's of City of Industry. They seems to have pleny left on the shelf. It says limited one per person, so you have to bring your friend with ya or do the re-entrance trick. I also scored 2 crucial sodimm 667 mhz 12.99 after MIR.

Give you guys more details about this card.

1. Due to the fact that it only has 320mb of ram and 192bits memory bandiwidth, this card can't do the job right for gaming higher than 1280x1024 (unless it's some old game)
2. Evga card doesn't put their fan at consistant 100%, you can adjust the fan speed by using Rivatuner.
3. You have to register this card on www.evga.com to have the life time warranty.
4. Evga gives you 90 days step up option, that means you can trade in any card and pay the deficits within 90days direct to Evga (however, you can always get lower price elsewhere, it's not really that helpful)
5. $80 bucks for this card = great price for a descent mid range gaming card. Get this if you can
6. Evga has one of the best rebate system around, I receive my 5+ rebate check in less than 1 month of processing time.

Please stop the misinformation. The 8800GS is a crippled G92 and therefore it overclocks well.

http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5354&Itemid=40&limit=1&limitstart=0

"Technically speaking, Geforce 8800 GS is not that much different from 8800 GT or 8800 GTS, as they share one heart – the 65 nanometer G92. The actual difference is the memory interface; 8800 GS has a crippled 192bit version, while 8800 GT and GTS have a 256-bit interface. Due to this, the memory numbers are somewhat odd and you’ll see them in 384 and 768MB versions. There are 96 Shader processors, which means that 8800 GS has 6 out of 8 Shader clusters enabled and 12 ROP’s, while 8800 GT has 16 ROP’s and 7 clusters. "

It's in Chinese, but here's a review with graphs showing various benchmarks between an 8800GS (stock clocked) compared to a 9600GT in many different games at several resolutions. Must use IE to load it, FireFox quits loading halfway through.

Did anyone who ordered this online actually get it?
Mine was stuck in "In Process" for a long time despite being in stock even today. I finally decided to ask them what was going on, because I normally get my orders from Frys pretty quickly. I got this reply:

Dear valued Frys.com customer,

Thank you for contacting Frys.com.

We apologize for the delay. Your order was "stuck" in our order
processing system and therefore did not ship out. I have released your
order and it will ship out to you today. I have also upgraded your
shipping to 2nd day at no extra charge. Once your order ships, you will
receive an e-mail with the tracking information. Once again, our
apologies for the delay.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,
Maureen M

I don't know how an order gets "stuck", but if anyone else hasn't received your order yet, you might need to email them to get it "unstuck".

Got mine last week. Beautiful and a very quiet card. Gotta love eVGA and the value is amazing. It's currently paired with the E2200/ECS 945GCT-M $80 Fry's dealio from a few weeks back that's been BSEL modded to 2.93 GHz stable on an *OLD* Antec 350W PSU (old one with 20-pin ATX connector, no PCIe connector, and has the OLD AT-motherboard type connector). eVGA on stock "overclocked" speeds it managed a 3DMark06 (1280x1024 0xAA/0xAF) of 9586. OC'ed, it'll definitely go over the 10K+ mark.

$80 for CPU/MB
$3 for copper tape from Fry's
$75 AR & PG for 8800GS
$15-20 AR for 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800

You're easily sittin' under $200 USD for a CPU/MB/Memory/Videocard that can do 10K+ 3DMark06! HDD and case deals (like the Antec cases that come with Earthwatts PSU's for under $50)... And you're easily sitting under $300. Just add KVM!

Cheers,
Eemrek

Did you order your card online?
You didn't order that CPU/mobo combo online, did you? I'd be really upset if they offered a great combo online and I missed it. There is no Frys local to me for thousands of miles, unfortunately.

If you get really adventurous, you could try a 1333FSB mod! It's easy if you do the BSEL mod with tape, just leave the 1066 MOD intact, cover part of your tape with electrical tape to insulate, and then add tape for the 1066 to 1333FSB. I have my E4300 1.8GHz running at 3.0GHz on a Foxconn G33M with the 1333FSB BSEL mod and a slight 75mV boost for stability. I also have a Celeron 420 1.6GHz that runs at 2.67GHz @ 1333FSB at stock voltage.

Oh. I'm sorry I wasn't clearer. I ordered online on May 14th, 2008 @ 3:15 AM. It shipped the next day on May 15th without any issue.

I thought about the 1333 FSB mod, but I have the E2200 and not an E2180 or E2160. The multiplier on the E2200 is 11X meaning a 1333FSB BSEL mod would try to boot my E2200 at 3.66 GHz (11x333)... Something I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not with the ECS and poor outdated Antec 350W PSU. I'm just surprised it even works!

With the 1066FSB BSEL mod, my room temperature during the tests was about 65F/18C. Core's 1 and 2 were about 21C idle. ORTHOS for 12 hours, Core 1 and 2 never went above 43C at full-load (using SpeedFan). I was using stock Intel retail fans from some Intel Xeon 3065's I purchased earlier in the year. They're the same as the E2200 stock Intel retail fan but twice as high. (I did wipe the lame thermal gunk off the stock and use Arctic Silver 5 instead though).

Man. That E4300 is a GREAT value with the 9X multipler (9x333 for your 3.0GHz)... That's awesome.

EDIT: Oops. P.S. The MB/CPU combo was B&M only. Not on-line
