i did a search and found some sandisk rebate mention but wanted to post this up to be sure everyone saw the full detail on the rebates.
i bought a new extreme 3 (new faster version) 16gb cf card from buydig.com today for $175 shipped with a $90 rebate from sandisk. $85 net (the rebate is a visa prepaid debit card) is an amazing price for this new very fast card. from the rebate form it looks like sandisk is offering substantial rebates on all of their fast cf and sd cards. in fact the rebates get bigger the more cards you buy, so if you buy 2 of the 16gb x3 cards the rebate is $200....bringing down the average cost to $75 a card. i was tempted to buy more than one and try to resell but that's not my thing.
here is a link to the rebate to see what cards and what rebates at what stores apply:
thanks, i knew there was stuff mentioned about the smaller cards but i didn't see anything listed about the larger cards (only cf format) such as the 16gb that i bought for my memory sucking d300. also this is for both sd and cf cards and includes everything including the greased lightning extreme 4 and ducati cf cards. just wanted to highlight the breadth of the rebates generally, all of which create really good deals for these high performance cards.
Thanks OP, I must have missed this when it was first announced.
I just got from beachcamera the following Sandisk 4 GB Extreme III Secure Digital HC Memory Card with MicroMate USB 2.0 Reader Availability: In Stock. Usually Ships in 1-2 Business Days Mail In Rebate: $30.00 3 $41.99 $125.97 Subtotal: $125.97 Shipping - 7-9 Business Days: $0.00 Tax (0%): $0.00 ORDER TOTAL: $125.97 Rebate: $-110.00 Final Price: $15.97 for 3 very good 4GB SD cards!
I’m guessing you need a special card reader and/or camera to use these cards? If so, anyone have any good deals?
Update: I ordered from buydig (using Live Search for $2.52 cazh back). The SDs come with their own card reader/adapter, so I guess I can use them as storage drives even if none of my cameras and mp3 players are able to see them.
the cf cards are plain old cf format, just really fast. i think at least some of these sd cards are 'sdhc' or high capacity sd format, in which case you need to make sure that your hardware is compatible. for the cf, no worries though, and my guess is that most new sd format cameras can take sdhc....but worth checking for sure.
i think since everybody's buying these sd cards and likely won't need 12gb of storage space all the time, we need to come up with some alternate uses for them.....
pocket size toothpicks that won't puncture your skin while in your pocket?

The SD cards come with a USB reader. So you do not have to buy a separate one. Not sure about CF cards if they come with reader or not. I have done 3 4GB SDHC cards deal twice. Got the first pre-paid card. Waiting for the second one.
