Awesome deal OP.

I just bought one refurbished from Buy.com for only $5 less just a few days ago. It should be noted, however, that this is only being sold through Amazon by Beach Camera (which has a very high rating it seems).

i have to say that, u have made me buy this one..
looks cool deal to me....

OP, might want to add NEW to title.

There is also this still available for those that aren't afraid of a little refurb action.

Refurb e270 6gb

Also, bear in mind that there is no guarantee you will get a Rockbox compatible revision.

you mean between the e250 and the e270..is the e250 not rockbox compatible?

No, the e2x0 players come in revision v1 or v2. Only the v1 revision currently works with Rockbox. I don't know if Rockbox will be compatible with v2 in the future. Perhaps a Rockbox expert can shed some light.

Perhaps a Rockbox expert can shed some light.Isn't it true, though, that if it's NOT v1/Rockbox compatible, the v2 revision adds the #1 virtue of Rockbox, which is compatibility with MicroSDHC (up to 8gb for a total of 10gb)?

I think I read that somewhere, so I'm pretty sure you get SDHC compatibility with v2. Not sure though. However, I disagree that the ability to use SDHC cards is the #1 virtue of Rockbox. Go HERE to see why else Rockbox rocks.

Refurb e270 6gb

the refurbs are not the same quality. People have posted on many forums that the refurbs are done by another company and use plastic parts (in the innards of the click wheel) while the original has metal. Basically the refurbs are not up to original specs and tend to break more often.

For new this is a very good deal.

What? That's the first time I've ever heard of this. Please provide a link.

I will link to a fatwallet thread as this is fatwallet, but it has been posted many times before on other boards.

example thread - refurb sansa - sans sansa

read bottom of thread. I just want people to be informed buyers. I dissassembled mine and found the same thing after having problems.

The Ops unit is new and should have a warranty and the metal brackets. My refurb sansa died in 6 months with no warranty.

I dont get it... Why would a company refurb a unit and replace the metal brackets with plastic ones?

MrNovember said: I dont get it... Why would a company refurb a unit and replace the metal brackets with plastic ones?

$$$...I believe the the 3rd party has found a source that sells the whole switch assembly as a cheap plastic unit - saving a couple of cents and avoiding patent infringement. It appears that sansa is not to happy about it either.

So they are replacing a broken metal bracket with a cheap plastic bracket... Seems that the metal ones suck too then, no?

MrNovember said: So they are replacing a broken metal bracket with a cheap plastic bracket... Seems that the metal ones suck too then, no?

The wiper blade contacts can get messed up. This is a design problem. So some break. The problem is the refurbs compound this issue with crappier parts and smaller contacts. So the design fault is multiplied by 10x. Then they offer no (or very little - based on reseller) warranty

Now I feel stupid for ordering the e270 refurb. I may have to refuse delivery.

Is it dead already?

Yes, dead.

good deal, but 6am on a monday I am glad I got in on the OPs.

I wouldn't sweat it. I have been using a E250 refurb very heavily for 3-4 months and it hasn't given me any problems. Doesn't mean it won't but I am happy so far.

I also had no problem with the 3 e250 refurbs that I bought. My c250 refurb, however, died after 3 months.

MrNovember said: Now I feel stupid for ordering the e270 refurb. I may have to refuse delivery.

Yeah, I am not trying to crash the deal you got. Just wanted to point out there is a lot of added value to "new" in this deal. I used mine a lot and it died after 6 months. Knowing what I know now I would have been more protective of it. The key is knowledge.

Damn where was this a week ago, got one on the last WOOT OFF refurbed. Lost my 260 when I moved and finally decided to replace it. But I would much rather have a new one. I dont care so much bout roxbox working as it doesnt add much that I would actually use vs the normal firmwares.

I might still jump on this and give the refurb to a family member.

edit....
Doh just noticed someone said it was dead and sure nuff 42.99 now

Got it and I am quite disappointed in this mp3 player. It can play songs and has a wheel to scroll, that's it.

My complaints:
1. Can't display chinese characters
2. does use a standard usb cable (not a big problem)
3. You can't scroll menus while it is charging so you can't listen while you are charging
4. Worst of all, I am trying to get it to do podcast, it doesn't not have indicator to display new (never listened) mp3s. So pretty much, I'll need to go to each podcast folder to figure out which mp3 I have not listened. If you are really into listening to podcast, I don't think this is for you. I am using mypodder, and you will need to deleted listened podcast yourself. Unlike iPod where you can set to delete listened mp3 at sync time.

Someone gave me red, I don't mind, but please indicate why my complaints are invalid. I really need a mp3 player for downloading podcasts. This really is a disappointment. If you only need a mp3 player that plays mp3, no doubt this thing can do the job.

Yup red again, thanks hpmoon for giving me the red.
