Japanese or not, that is worse than most domestics and way worse than Honda and Toyota vans, the two best. Also fuel economy is a half black circle. Great price, but looks like many of them have drivetrain and electrical system problems by three years old.

The owners that filed reviews were way happier with the van than the editors of edumunds. Of course anyone can file an internet review even if they don't own the van, even if they sell the van. It's not like you have to show ID. Consumer reports reliability data comes from owners who also subscribe to consumer reports and bother to fill out their long and tedious survey. I'd trust that over someone who just fills out an internet form.

It falls right in the middle of the pack of the editors choice ratings:

To each his own, and I now own one.

Please remove your credit card number.

How do you figure that? Out of the vans rated by the editors, only the Chevy Uplander did worse than the Quest in the editor ratings.

I just got back from my local dealership in Indianapolis looking at the Pathfinders. I went there as a normal buyer: looked at the car, took it for a test drive, showed them the car I wanted to trade in and asked them to work up a deal. The MSRP on the Pathfinder was ~$34,000. Here was the deal he gave me:

~$34,000 MSRP
- $2500 REBATE
- $8000 Trade-in (this is fair KBB value for the car I had)
= $23,500 including tradin. No lowering of the MSRP at all.

What a crap "deal".

So he wanted to play hardball I played hardball. I whipped out my trusty hard copy of the linked ad to the 40% to see if they would do any pricematching. I told him I have no trouble driving to Lexington and picking one up there if they won't work with me and lower the MSRP to match.

The guy went get the sales manager. He sat down, looked over the ad, told me the only way this deal is possible is if the dealship eats the 40% that Nissan has no such deal going on. He insisted the deal he offered me was as good as it gets and he was doing me a "favor" by giving me a "deal" as good as he did. He then kept the printout of the 40% off sale and walked me to the door. Jerk.

I'll be trying a different dealership in the area tomorrow.

RE:

Is that KBB trade in value?
Their "trick" is to offer over KBB trade in value....
With no discount on the new car.
When actually they only give currently 1/2 of that...(trade in value)

I hate dealing with dealers. Most are pretty slimy. But they do "deal" for a living so I shouldn't be surprised.

/sorry, but it was obligatory.
The Nissan Quest is manufactured in Nissan’s plant in Mississippi. You may consider the South foreign, but my guess is they don't.

Some people just don't get sarcasm.

Speaking as to the height of car dealer shiesterism..

They want you to pay another $50 or more for a DOC fee.
Like heck, I have never paid it....
Always made the deal, then when they want to add that fee, I start to walk....
Trust me, they will cave right then and there.

Middle of the pack = 7.5 Good rating. I doubt the others listed below will fair any better.

You're just guessing. They didn't rate the other ones at all. The Quest was second to last out of the editor rated vans.

Easy solution: Don't buy one

Funny you should post this now - my hub's at the Nissan dealer right now (Chicagoland area) trying to chew them on their prices. Will try emailing him the ad to see what the salesperson thinks (before they start their houdini-like shell game w/ prices and trade ins).

Pretty much all manufacturers have lots of SUVs and pickups on hand, because no one is buying them. Ford even had to shut down its SUV factory for the summer since they weren't selling.

I don't mean to be a grinch here but be careful with car dealerships. This may be a good deal but things change quickly when you get to store. I just looked up the basic Xterra on the same Nissan site and it's MSRP is $20050.00 The ad says nothing about which model they are advertising and what options comes with it, assuming that it is the cheapest the MSRP is inflated by $5000.00. Make sure to use Edmunds.com or some independent site to validate what they "consider" MSRP. Definitely great deal otherwise.
