Somebody will soon post this sooner or later. So why not sooner?

Woot is selling a refurbished white or black Apple 5th Generation 30GB iPod Video for $135 shipped. I got mine for over $250 a year ago.

I Want One

Woot is also selling the Memorex iFlip 7” iPod Portable Video Player for $35 shipped to go along with the iPod video at http://sellout.woot.com

*Edit* the iPod is sold out.

This is not the new iPod classic. It's the old iPod video.

Does anybody know the differences between the new Ipod classic and the old Ipod video? Any huge differences I should know about that would make this deal not sweet? Thanks all, back to back to back business meetings all day... ugh.

great response and link. Thanks a ton

As you probably red in the comparison page:

"The iPod classic models support video out but only from the dock connector using a compatible Apple cable or dock or another accessory with an "Apple Authentication" chip."

This is huge as some of the coolest devices (like the Sonic Impact V55) only work with the 5G models due to this change. Also, many "Made for iPod" devices on the market today that support enhanced video will not have the "Apple Authentication chip" so the classic will not work on them.

After reading about the new ipod classic I really don't think I would ever buy it (for the next year or so). I was wondering why the pricing is the same as the older ipod but for almost double amount of memory. It's the authentication chip for the accessories. That means all the little after market gadgets and toys i bought for my ipod would be useless. Thats not very attractive. The space, price and battery life is great, but what a trade off.

Theres apple for you trying to make everything propitiatory.

The 5th gen has a lot of advantages over the Classic. It can use all iPod accessories whereas the Classic isn't compatible with older video-out cables. Also, the 5th gen can run Rockbox. Finally, most third-party software has issues with the Classic especially with album art.

FYI -

Something important to note here: According to the serial numbers, the black iPod (MA146) in the woot is a 5th gen, while the white iPod (MA444) in the auction is a 5.5gen. The difference? The 5.5gen has a brighter screen, longer battery life, upgraded headphones, and a "search" function on its main menu. Cosmetically, they will look the same (except for the color).

So its a great woot, but definitely get the white iPod.

That's messed up for woot to mix the two versions.

BTW The fifth generation iPod was updated on September 12, 2006. This update included a brighter screen, a search feature, gapless playback, support for iPod games, and newly designed earphones. The refreshed iPod also had a longer video playback time. Support for iPod games and gapless playback was enabled on original fifth generation classics through a firmware update.- iPod classic - Wikipedia
