Stingingfork said:I've never owned an Impact Wrench so let me ask a dumb question, is there any difference between the sockets for the regular 1/2" drive Socket Wrench set which I already own and the 1/2'' Drive Impact Socket Set. I'm assuming none but am I wrong? an impact socket set is meant to resist the torque and stress that is going to be applied when you try to take a lug off. the everyday socket wrench set will eventually decay and possibly be a dangerous situation when it breaks. |

Thanks to all that replied to my question on the difference of the sockets. I'll definitely pick-up an impact set of sockets to use with the Sears wrench I just purchased thanks to the OP and his post! |

Time to throw out my POS Harbor Freight Impact that couldn't take off lug nuts, which is the primary purpose for me.Just be aware of the PSI on this one, which is 340 ft/lbs. Sure, it's a good price, but don't be foolish. There are good and bad products. Harbor Freight carries some better impact wrenches and some that are junk. The last time I checked, Harbor Frieght was a store, not a brand. Right you are, however I don't think most people that buy from Harbor Freight even know the brand of the tools they just bought. The impact I bought have good spec and worked well for the first few times, then it just totally went to crap. They have some great hand tools and when you got a coupon, it's unbeatable. Where else are you going to find impact socket sets for under $10 that actually holds up? Anyhow I will give this new impact a good workout and see how it holds up. Got a lot of suspension work to do. |

With 340 lbs of MAX torque the working torque this wrench will be pretty weak. An average wrench will have a max of 450 lbs and your professional garage wrench could be up to 1100 lbs. But for $19 it will be good for the average joe. |

Hope some of you guys picked up Craftsman impact socket sets from OSH several weeks ago when I posted. They were the older style packages that Sears itself no longer carries. I got them about 50% off what Sears charges for their current stuff. |

Anyhow I will give this new impact a good workout and see how it holds up. Got a lot of suspension work to do. I have a few sets of HF impact sockets (both normal and deep wall) and used them on a variety of stuff (Cracked open a virgin Civic crank shaft bolt - applied about 800 ft lb of torque with a 4 ft cheater bar), and they held up well with no issues at all. HF has a lot of crappy tools, but I generally have good luck with their hand tools like sockets, especially those made in Taiwan hand tools. One thing for sure is that their impact socket prices are unbeatable... |

If you use it enough to buy anohter one, spend the 100 bucks on something that will take off lug nuts. Good luck even getting the claimed 340ft-lbs out of this thing, many people can't even break lugs off. For anyone who blames it on small compressors - as long as the tank is full you should have enough to at least brean one lug nut with a properly functioning tool. |

Same here. I got several HF impact sockets sets and uses with Ingersoll-Rand guns for getting those big bolts off. They hold up very well to abuse and everything. paulgoh said:

Vetterin said:With 340 lbs of MAX torque the working torque this wrench will be pretty weak. This is decent as far as torque. Most low end 1/2" impact wrenches are in the ~250 ft/lbs range. Fine for wheels, but forget using it to take that center bolt out off your harmonic balancer (spend 3 hours one day with a Craftsman and a Camble Hausfield - both 250ft lbs). 340ft lbs is decent. After my 3 hour ordeal I invested in an Ingersol Rand IR2131. 600ft/lbs loosening torque. No issues now (except I'll probably break bolts now). That said, make sure whatever tool you get you don't starve it by using too small of a air hose. Those 1/4" coily hoses really restrict the potential of your impact wrench. Also don't use an impact wrench to full tighten your lug nuts - unlike the tire shops around here. Use a torque wrench. Finally, impact rated sockets (of which Harbor Freight is a GREAT source for!!) are thicker but also are not chrome plated. I imagine the chrome would eventually start peeling and cut you from the stress. |

The reviews are all positive. None of the reviewers claimed they can't take off lug nuts with this model, in fact most poeple said this one worked when others failed them. If you don't own it, then shut up. |

When I went to pick mine up it was out of stock. The guy in the merchandise pick up area wouldn't do anything, but he called a manager for me. The manager said the online inventory showed the display as available for sale, and I probably didn't want the display. The manager said he would give me 50% off the regular price of any impact wrench he had in stock. So, instead of a $40 wrench for $20 I got a $90 wrench for $45. I guess this was a good deal. Thanks for the post. |
