Nice deal but refurb'd

alert mods

I will buy a lot of things refurbished, but a hard drive is not one of them.

Not a bad deal if you are willing to take the risk.

These went out the door new with 5 year warranty, and lately they're around $100 OEM still w/5 year warranty. Seagate is trying to clear out stock of returns they can't find anything wrong with, so they dump them on clearance houses and hope that most work for 6 months. And after all the "discounts" you still pay top $ shipping at Geeks.com so this is no deal.

for a refurb??? You can almost buy new for that price! And it won't be some crappy generic enclosure either.

alert mods

nice deal if it was new, but refurb hard drives and LCDs are probably the 2 refurbs you should avoid

alert mods

if they still had 5 year warranties, you could throw a bunch into a RAID-5. if one goes out, they'd replace it. if two go out at the same time though... i suppose your chance of getting a bum refurb increases if you buy more of them. buy at your own risk IMO
