would a full sized video card fit in one of these? Like the PNY 9600GT from Amazon that was just on sale?

Tia.

i came across a few sff before they all have no problem taking a single slot full size v card, according to the new3gg page i think yes as long as it's a single slot

Looks like a good deal. The only bad thing I see is no DVI....

Anyway, whats the best CPU deal out there for this? I just found FAR NVDA DDR2 memory for it from Microcenter!

alert mods

Microcenter itself has the E4300 for $60.

edit: nevermind. didnt read this thread is for AMD.

Couldn't resist, ordered one to replace my old Shuttle XPC SK41G. The PSU of the old Shuttle was replaced once, otherwise not bad.

nevermind.

Correct me if I'm wrong but all this needs is an operating system HD and Video card to get running?

alert mods

1. processor (amd socket am2), 2. ddr2 memory, 3. hard drive, 4. of course an operating system. Usually SFF comes with built-in video processor already, but if you want more juice you can get a single slot pci-express video card.

alert mods

also, it comes with its custom heatsink, so you can just get an oem cpu, and don't forget you need an optical drive too

alert mods

Don't forget keyboard and mouse (usb, not ps/2)

I picked one up last night from the Frys in Roseville, California. I already had an AMD BE-2300 CPU and 1GB of memory from an earlier Frys deal. I put it together and installed Ubuntu 8.04. So far, I am very pleased. I plan to use it mainly as a SageTV client and it has plenty of power for that.

The case is so small my wife might not even notice a new toy in my office...

How are shuttle rebates. I have am2 processor lying around but no mb or heatsink. Thinking of getting this.

So from what everyone has said here this is what you will need to get a working machine:
1 operating system
2 HD
3 Video card
4 processor (amd socket am2)
5 ddr2 memory
6 keyboard
7 mouse

WOW thats allot of extras

you don't have to get a video card if you don't need one. here's a quick break down
1. o/s get free ubuntu or xp you-know-where-to-get-it-free
2. hdd, cheapo hdd from recent st4ples deal $30ish
3. use on-board
4. cheapest oem from new3gg around $50ish
5. weekly deal from frys/outpost for $25ish after rebate
6, 7 go get some really cheapo from your local garage sale

alert mods

I think it is a very good system for the price since it includes video, gigabit ethernet, firewire, and 7.1 channel audio onboard.

Wanted to make sure those buying are aware this only supports SATA 150 according to the Newegg specs.
Also, the bit about saving a couple bucks buying an OEM processor, since you don't need a heatsink, that's true but you'll only get a 30-day warranty as opposed to the AMD 3 year warranty on boxed processors.
