I was searching for some independent reviews and found this...
"It will suck your pc dry. I tried it months ago. It runs 5 services adding up to about 50,000 K. Better off using Sandboxie like I do." Has anyone installed ForceField and care to comment on memory usage? Thanks!

All ZoneAlarm products are resource hogs, and ForceField is no exception. And in order to create a sandbox environment, hooks must be made into the OS itself, so care should be taken when choosing one.
Sandboxie is a recommended alternative. I hear Comodo is coming out with a similar sandbox application soon, as well.
No, you will be e-mailed a link to download the product. The link will be active for a week. In the same email will be a license key good for a year.(Probably a year after you install.) So you can download now, and install at your convenience.

ZA was bought off by a isralei company, and after a while they started to send "home" encrypted packets. First they would deny it, but after a computer magazine verified & printed this, they claimed it to be some sord of "enhance the service" "feedback". With no "customer identifiable information". Then why the hell encrypt it? They never lay open what they are doing. I checked with a packet sniffer and saw that the packets increase with web activity.
No thank you!
Good find though.

Anyone - what are some alternatives, and are they any better? Sorry for the basic questions, but I'm a little behind on security software.
Still using free version of ZA.
Thanks.

First to pm me will get DL link & serial to activate for one year but you have to promise not to sell it on eBay or any other method or place, personal use only.
I installed it last night, registered it, etc. Required a reboot. On reboot my computer (XP SP2) froze once the icon came into the system tray. I had to remove it in Safe Mode. Bye bye nice try.

Still using free version of ZA. Thanks. ZoneAlarm, along with Symantec, has, quite honestly, some of the worst software. Just read reviews about how bloated their software is, not to mention how ineffective they are. There are many alternatives, and even many free ones, though some free security software are overpraised simply because they are free...
For Windows XP, and possibly Vista: Alternative to ForceField: Sandboxie
I am running ZA ForceField with Windows XP sp3 with FireFox 3.01 and haven't had any problems yet. It also works with Opera.
I actually like it. It does more than Sandboxie from the research I've done. It blocks keylogging, phishing and other malware while you surf. Also, the Private Browser can be opened, and blocks all cookies whatsoever, and basically allows you me to browse completely anonymously with FireFox.
Why don't people care for this? It seems like they fixed every problem I read about when it was in Beta version.
I am tinkering with Sandboxie, too, and works fine, but it does not do what ZA Forcefield does.

Can you elaborate on this? Are you saying that they 'cull' private data from users of their software? I'm using ZoneAlarm Free as one of my firewalls already.
oxnard said: I'm using ZoneAlarm Free as one of my firewalls already. As one of your firewalls? Please tell me you're referring to one or more hardware firewalls and a single software firewall, and not multiple software firewalls...
Also, there are much better free alternatives to ZA Free. Here's just one comparison test of free and pay firewalls. Google for more test results (by the way, if the test was recent, the results will be similar to these, I assure you).

Hey, D. Right, one of my hardware firewalls.
I tried Comodo before, but it was buggy, and there so many popups during the 'learning curve.'
