Good find though. Anyone - what are some alternatives, and are they any better? Sorry for the basic questions, but I'm a little behind on security software. Still using free version of ZA.

I installed it last night, registered it, etc. Required a reboot. On reboot my computer (XP SP2) froze once the icon came into the system tray. I had to remove it in Safe Mode. Bye bye nice try. |

ZoneAlarm, along with Symantec, has, quite honestly, some of the worst software. Just read reviews about how bloated their software is, not to mention how ineffective they are. There are many alternatives, and even many free ones, though some free security software are overpraised simply because they are free... For Windows XP, and possibly Vista:

TD, thanks for the code. I really appreciate it. I am running ZA ForceField with Windows XP sp3 with FireFox 3.01 and haven't had any problems yet. It also works with Opera. I actually like it. It does more than Sandboxie from the research I've done. It blocks keylogging, phishing and other malware while you surf. Also, the Private Browser can be opened, and blocks all cookies whatsoever, and basically allows you me to browse completely anonymously with FireFox. Why don't people care for this? It seems like they fixed every problem I read about when it was in Beta version. I am tinkering with Sandboxie, too, and works fine, but it does not do what ZA Forcefield does. |

Can you elaborate on this? Are you saying that they 'cull' private data from users of their software? I'm using ZoneAlarm Free as one of my firewalls already.

As one of your firewalls? Please tell me you're referring to one or more hardware firewalls and a single software firewall, and not multiple software firewalls... Also, there are much better free alternatives to ZA Free. Here's just one comparison test of free and pay firewalls. Google for more test results (by the way, if the test was recent, the results will be similar to these, I assure you). |

I tried Comodo before, but it was buggy, and there so many popups during the 'learning curve.' Maybe it's improved since then; I'm not sure. |

Uninstalled ZoneAlarm Free. Now using Comodo Pro Free+Defense and ZoneAlarm ForceField with browsers. Also, no conflict with AVG. ShieldsUp gave me a perfect stealth rating on every metric. Very nice.  |
