A 750 GB drive for slightly less $$ and many fewer issues (see recent FW deals at Newegg and ZZF) suits me better. But I hope this "clearance sale" is a sign that TB drives are getting priced down and average storage will press past 500-750 GB for mainstream drives.

Too many failures in those reviews. I'll pass.

Damn you FW. I don't visit the site for a few days and then I see this deal...

I ordered 2...

In for one.

It is our Annual Sales Tax Holiday Weekend in Massachusetts - so NO TAX !

And for some reason - ??? - Dell charged me for Shipping, and then removed the Shipping charge on the same Invoice.

I did use my Dell Preferred Credit Card. So assuming it's not a Price Error, I'm paying $109.99 Total.

And I clicked thru on FatWallet, so hopefully I'll get 4% there, too.

Sweet !

This is certainly the best price yet for a 1TB drive, but the price isn't so spectacular that it is guaranteed to be a mistake. That other 1TB thread for the white label drive is $130, and lots of retailers are offering back-to-skool deals starting at this time of year. Sooner or later these drives will reach $110, so why not sooner?
I see one of the drive manufacturers now has a 1.5TB model, Hitachi I think. Perhaps Seagate is paving the way for their own bigger drive, or at least Dell is clearing their shelves.

All I know is it took a LONG time for 750GB to get to this level. Longer than previous cycles IIRC.

One strange issue: the order was confirmed, but never showed up in the order history in "my account"

SamuX said:Thanks OP, in for two. Any suggestions on a good NAS with this? I'm thinking the DNS-323 from Newegg for about 150 AR.

do you recommend it over the Netgear Readynas Duo?
I'm looking for Network storage, Music Server, Redundant Raid, and WAN accessibility.

When used for storage a TB is a TB. It can have 87 platters for all I care. This is a hot deal.

Isn't the max per platter, 320GB, with the current technology? Thus the 4 platters?

Off - reviews off of Newegg have my fingers crossed for a china made product, lead free or not. =P

Very tempted by this.
Thanks.
