Considering that Sony website has it for $445 over 20% more than this deal, a green for you. Granted it is 30 GB not 40. It is not for me though, as I am more of a Canon fan than a Sony.

Yeah, but comparing to that is a pretty low standard and it's pretty easy to achieve (sorry, there are lots of "professionals" here, haha). Tax kills the deal.

Just a heads up, I have extensively used a Sony HDD camcorder VERY similar to this, but the image sensor was not good at all. Grainy, even outdoors and low light/indoors was horrible. But I will say, ease of use and speed is fantastic. That said, it's a great deal if someone is looking for this camcorder.
I considered getting this for my parents but after doing some research and trying out this model in stores I decided the JVC MG330 was a better buy. It was much easier to use and the video quality was comparable if not better. These are all entry level models so basically video will look decent when you have a lot of light but low light shots are pretty weak. They way I saw it was the JVC had a bit better video, was easier to use, looked better (less plasticky), and was cheaper! I got it on Amazon for $349 which would be cheaper than the Sony but of course the Sony has a 40GB drive (33% more storage)!
