BESTBUYEMPLOYEE said:You guys are scam artists and crooks. Two employees I work with have been fired for ringing up this coupon without calling in Cox. The guys who came in distracted her, changed the conversation, said just scan it. Well she did and the manager called her in and fired her. She just got hired a month ago and doesn't know how these scams work. I don't know how you people sleep at night ripping off companies just to save a few bucks. If that's true, the new clueless employees should be even easier to get the coupon with. jk Does anybody know if this is actually true though or is just a dbag store manager messing with us? |

No one was fired because they used the coupon. How moronic. "There's a troll in the dungeon..." Just ignore it. |

Just picked mine up from Microcenter in Orange County, CA last night. For $380 out the door, this puppy ain't bad! Can anyone of you press down your "right wristpad area" on your keyboard (where, maybe, a kid would rest his right wrist while typing) and see if you can press it down as if it itself was its own button? I've spent far more on Pocket PC's that were far less functional, so I'm not complaining too much about workmanship and fitment, but I'm just curious if others have encountered this and treat this as a major issue. |

Ok, my question is where this $100 off comes from? Do you think Best Buy eats the $100 or the ISP (i.e. Cox) ? Also, taking the $100 internet rebate out of the equation - do you think it is worth $50 more for the extra 40gb and 6 cell battery ? |

This has now become my primary computer. I never saw that coming. The portability is a huge advantage. The biggest thing I've had to adapt to is the smaller keyboard, but adapt I have - quickly. |

If I only had $250-400 to spend, these new netbooks would be my choice as a primary computer as well, but since I was able to splurge on a more expensive ultra-portable, I prefer my 2.7lb Thinkpad X60s much much more than the Acer. Here's what I wrote in response to someone's Craigslist inqury of "why did you decide to sell?": I really liked the Acer Aspire One, but I didn't have another "netbook" to compare with. I regularly use my Thinkpad X60s, and I would gladly use the thinkpad rather than the Acer for everyday use. Ultimately, my wife doesn't want me to keep more than one laptop for personal use, so I couldn't justify keeping it, and I decided to sell while supply is still short. Otherwise, it works very well for everyday needs, and it's quite speedy in most tasks. The only complaints I really have: 1) the 8.9" screen can get cramped easily, especially for spreadsheets and web browsing - I prefer a 12" or larger screen, but if a 8.9" screen came out with higher resolution, that may be an option, too, but that would also mean REALLY small text 2) the touchpad is not designed well with the side buttons instead of buttons on the bottom - this was a sacrifice to get the keyboard to be larger/better designed - I've gotten use to the thinkpad X60s trackpoint and prefer that to a trackpad, but many people don't like touchpoints 3) the Atom processor ultimately seems spiffy but it will slow down for some simple, everyday things, such as refreshing a web page. Sometimes when I'm refreshing one tab in Internet Explorer 7, it will cause the whole system to be unresponsive until the page refreshes. I have the same thing running on my Thinkpad, and I've never seen this happen on my Core Duo Intel low-voltage 1.6Ghz processor. I've checked the task manager on the Acer and there is no competing process for the hyper-threaded CPU, and this is on a fresh Windows XP Pro install. Perhaps it's a Windows issue, since I haven't not tried it on Linux or Ubuntu or what not. But I don't want to scare you from this, as it doesn't happen very often. 4) In Windows XP, coming out of hibernate and sleep sometimes causes memory leaks and other system instability. I usually don't reboot my computers (laptops and desktops), but I found I had to reboot the Acer once every 2-3 days. 5) The fan is always on. I tried the beta Windows program, but it's not quite polished yet. The fan doesn't seem to come on for me at the temperature I specified, so rather than risk overheating the processor, I just uninstalled the program. (I tried different temperatures and reboot a few times with no affect - fan didn't come on that I remember - maybe this is related to #4). Anyhow, all in all, for $250-350, these laptops are great as "throw-around" or "disposable" computer for trips and what not, but for everyday use, I'll stick to my 12" form factor. I carry around my laptop every day, so my 2.7lb (or 3.1lb with extended battery) 12-inch thinkpad is serving me well so far. Of course, the price tag was about 3-4 times as much =)
---
You can call this my personal review/opinion, but I've been using ultraportables and 3lb laptops since 1997, so these are my preferences. |

I was referring to the Thinkpad being 3-4 times as much, depending on what people choose to pay. The AA1 is between $270-380 after tax. I got my thinkpad new in April 2007 for $700 after discounts and coupons, etc... and the retail on that at the time was $1300. So... $278 (after CA tax and recycling fee) for the Acer $700 for my X60s robby69 said:owl79 said: I prefer my 2.7lb Thinkpad X60s much much more than the Acer. After the gift card, my AA1 was $224 including tax. The fan hack works flawlessly for me. owl79 said:I was referring to the Thinkpad being 3-4 times as much, depending on what people choose to pay. I carry this thing around with me everywhere during my day. I'd much rather carry this than a 12" notebook because the footprint is much smaller, and it's half a pound lighter than the X60. Both these factors make it much easier to carry it in your hand like you would a small organizer compared to a larger and heavier 12" notebook. And I don't throw mine around either. It has a 120 GB hard drive with moving parts. |

I'm sorry - I forgot I also used two gift cards that someone gave to me as gifts, and I complained about two separate issues, so Best Buy is going to send me a $50 gc now and a $100 gc later... if I count it this way the AA1 "cost" me $100, but my $270-380 figure is for "out-of-pocket" comparison. By disposable, I meant that if I lost this on a vacation, it wouldn't be as devastating because of the lower price and the inclination to not put valuable files on the netbook. namlook said:owl79 said:
