So I signed up at bestbuy.com for the internet service and it doesn't say anything about the $100 off a laptop on the sheet with the barcode. Should it? |

I'll have just saved myself like $1250 lol. was planning on getting an x61s or x200 w/ accident warranty. I know this laptop doesnt even compare, but I was debating what to get in the first place as this is only for taking notes in class... Taking notes in class, maybe.
But this should probably NOT be your only computer or you'll be disappointed. If you want to photoshop, burn a DVD, watch tv, or play a modern game, it's pretty much useless.
But...as a second computer, this is perfect for surfing the web via Wifi, and maybe some light productivity on the go.
I am going to play with it before I buy it. Hopefully the keyboard will be a lot better than the EEE 900 that I tried and didn't like. Oh yeah for sure... I've got a rack in my bedroom with 2 servers and my main rig lol... so this will be an on the go PC only... I bought a $1500 laptop a few years ago (Fujitsu P7010) and while I loved it to death, i just never used it when at home... I also have a nokia n800 and I'm thinking this may very well be able to replace that if i do the bluetooth mod so I can tether with my cell phone. My only problem is batt life.. I'm not sure what it is (still reading reviews, @ $250, its almost a throw away laptop lol.. but not really. you know what I mean.) Anyway, thanks for the input. As for the keyboard, I typed on it quite a bit at bestbuy and I was VERY happy with it.. I have pretty big hands and I was able to type just as fast as on my desktop... I acustom to the fujitsu keyboard which is tiny (10" WS) so I was really happy to have felt how it works for me. |

Unless it has changed recently the Best Buy POS system asks the cashier to enter the phone number used during the Internat signup offer when the barcode from the broadband confirmation is scanned. It then retrieves your broadband order and it appears as a line item on your Best Buy receipt. If it can't find your order no discount is given. Wrong. I purchased a computer today with it. The cashier didn't ask for any information, the name on my sheet wasn't even mine. No call, no credit, no confirmation of any kind. The barcode for Joe Schmoe in Arkansas is the same barcode and serial as Jack Black in Hollywood. There is no way to scan it and identify the origin. |

I never stated the verify credit and EVERYONE knows by now knows the barcode on the confirmation is ONLY the coupon code. However that has no relevance to what Iposted since the barcode only triggers the process to get you phone number. They DO ask for you phone number and verify you have an order for THAT phone number. The name or other garbage on he confirmation has no meaning. At leaset in my area (AZ) and I am sure most others that is how it works. The system prompts the cashier for your phone number and it verifies if you have a Internet broadband order in their system. It doees NOT verify the status of the order just that you have an order. (Perphaps you used a RZ card which automatically brings up your phone number? I don't know, but I DO know the process because I watched at LEAST a dozen customers who signed up these broadband offers trying to and apply it to the two sub $500 laptops laptop offers this past Sunday go through this process while waiting to do at return at the CS desk. Most had to wait a few minutes for the system to update because the BB POS cound not find their broadband order when it was just created at the in-store kiosk. The $100 discount would not apply without a phone number to order verification. |

Signing up for HSI on bestbuy.com was a waste of time for me. Manager said district required sign up in store only. They just signed me up again in store. Of course, mine was a legitimate sign up. OP, please put YMMV in title, or change price to $349. |

So how hard would it be to swap a SSD for the 120 GB hard drive. I want a SSD for low energy consumption and don't particularly want Windoze, either (ya, I'm a Penguinista, I'd probably blow some version of Ubuntu or Mandriva on the box). But the Linux version costs $30 more ($380), and what's more, it only has 512 MB of RAM (and its apparently very hard to add a second stick). I wonder if Microsoft is actually paying netbook makers to install its operating system to prevent Linux from getting a toehold in the consumer market. Why the heck would the Windows version be substantially better equipped and cheaper than the model with the free operating system? |

On the Comcast Printout, it states "Save $100 instantly with any laptop purchase. Save $100 on any Laptop when you sign up for Comcast High Speed Internet Service at Best Buy." Sounds like you have to sign up in the store, in addition to just having them scan the bar code on the printout. Hmmmm... |

The $100 discount would not apply without a phone number to order verification. Sorry but your information is wrong. I've bought 14 laptops since Sunday using coupons for every purchase. Not a single confirmation of any kind. The coupon I used yesterday and today don't even have my name and address on them. When sales noticed it I just explained it was my roommate-to-be and they went right along with the sale. I repeat for the dense-in-the-head crowd that's frequenting this thread: BEST BUY DOES NOT CONFIRM THE COUPON CODES WHEN THEY ARE ISSUED THROUGH THE WEBSITE OR WHEN YOU USE IT TO CHECK OUT IN THE STORE. THE BARCODE IS THE SAME REGARDLESS OF INFORMATION YOU ENTER OR THE SERVICE YOU SELECT. THE STATE YOU LIVE IN YOUR FAVORITE FLAVOR OF ICE CREAM AND THE NUMBER OF ZITS ON YOUR FACE WILL NOT EFFECT YOUR ABILITY TO USE THE PRINTED COUPON. |
