The fan?

Is anyone else able to push down their right "wrist-pad" area (I quote "wrist-pad" because the average adult won't have wrists which are that small) as if there's some dead space beneath it?

It's the fan. Here's how to silence it.

Thank you!

Dont hold your breath people. I spoke with a friend who still works at BB and he said BB has not even placed an order to replenish stock at stores. It also takes about two weeks after order is placed for stores to get them. Best place to buy these right now is eBay.

u sure tmobile isnt fly by night? they vacuum penis here.. lol

I don't understand your post but am oddly curious as to your intended meaning.

Most folks would not use the vacuum wording, but what does a vacuum do.... It sucks

all the Bay Area BB stores showed "in-stock" with the online inventory checker this morning (Sunday) but I called around at 11AMPST (one hour after store opening) and no one had any in store... any reports of actual purchases out there?

We've had this question a few times, so I've updated the QS.

Actually this time it was Best Buys RSS system that went bonkers today to the point where they had to shut it down. This is what caused the inaccurate stock issues today.

Dont hold your breath. Best Buy is not going to have these in stock for another few weeks or longer.

Seems like that... oh well

If you need one quicker, there's always "fleabay".

*sarcasm mode off*

Anyone know a zip code in NY that Comcast services? I tried several, with no luch.

The Acer One has been pulled from BBs website. This confirms they have not even placed an order to Acer for stock just like BB employees have stated. Oh well.

That 6 cell battery for this unit irks me. Why must it protrude so much?

Because it's bigger?

Most of the Acer extended batteries..for all their models...stick out a bit.

On the Travelmate line, it's actually a plus. Gives a nice title to the keyboard when you're typing.

It was fun while it lasted.

I believe one of the Asus 6-cellers doesn't protrude. Of course, that could be due to the unit itself being larger, dunno.

(bad post deleted)

I think this thread can safely be marked "dead". Unfortunately.

But Black Friday is coming.

It isn't a hot deal, but if you are still trying to get the Aspire 1 with 120 hdd, looks like AAFES started getting their shipments in. Langley AFB put one out on display today. I asked the clerk and he said they just got them today. $349.00

thanks for the tip.

lol. I have a friend in college who told me a funny story. He was in a study area and saw someone using the Acer One. It was so loud due to the cheap-o fan and defective fan control design one of the school works there told him to turn it off. LOL!!!

We have seven of them, both 120GB and 160GB versions and not one has that problem. And we do not use any aftermarket fan control, we use them just as they came.

how about one of these?eee

is this troll always this useless? or does he just hate netbooks?

From what I can tell, he has been since early to mid 2006.

I've got one of these.. the 160 GB 6 cell version from Costco and the fan makes essentially NO noise. I can hear it running at times, but it's as quiet as someone exhaling.

If Onion's really makes that much noise, it must be defective and he (she) should return or exchange it.

It's a great little PC that fits into a coat pocket!

checkout Lenovo s10 at fry's recently and the quality is SSSSSOOOOOO much better than asus eeepc and acer one. fry's had the s10 for $350 512mb 80gb or $400 1gb 160gb. so check out the Lenovo's before you jump into the asus and acers

While I have never been a huge fan of acer keyboards I was floored how much tighter the keys respond on the Lenovo. Actually doesn't the Lenovo have the best onboard video among all the netbooks right now?

Lenovo keyboards are forge directly by the gods. Nothing comes close. I have an Asus. I game on the Asus, but I use my X60 for everything else. I only wished my X60 could game like a netbook.

What is the best method to install software into this thing? I don't have a USB CDROM. Is there anyway I can hook it up to my desktop by using a CAT cable and access the desktop CDROM that way?

You could share the CD-Rom on your desktop over a wireless network if you have one.
You could share the CD-Rom on your desktop over a wired (router/Hub) if you have one.
You could use a USB flash drive
You could purchase an external USB CD-Rom for $17 on eBay from Hong Kong.
You could connect the 2 computers via the network cards using a "crossover" cable, not a normal Cat-5 Tutorial HERE

Holy thread revival.

While we're here, I'm using my AAO Netbook MORE than my regular notebook.

So, yes, this was a smoking deal, and the netbook is for real, not a fad, IMO.
