PatelForIndia said:Poor Reviews at Amazon
I found this in the Woot discussion:

SilverStar830 said:I've been Googling and researching this unit for the last hour and a half since the item change over. I noticed some things during my cursory online research into this unit.

Almost all of the terrible reviews are old. It seems that this unit went through some trials and tribulations when it was first released in 2007. However, starting just a few months ago, the unit started getting very good reviews by consumers. There were OS updates and map updates, even some hardware updates, and a sorely needed user-manual translation update. That seemed to make things peachy keenier. The most recent reviews I read were all very good with the occasional exception here and there.

No, this unit doesn't have a built-in battery. But, unless you're out and about on foot or bike, you don't need one. It may be a pain if you make a lot of stops when using the unit because of the reboots, but it saves all your most recent activity to its flash memory. It will take only a few moments at most to get back on track when you head out again. The other added features are pretty nifty too...

FOR A $150 GPS UNIT

The Garmin 7" , also without a battery... and no inputs/outputs, no built in FM transmitter, no DivX player, etc, costs 800 bucks. You could buy 4 of these and have 200 bucks left over for gas money for the cost of one 7" Garmin.

So, I'm in for one. For the price, you can't beat it. If it breaks, you have a one year manufacturer warranty which is pretty darn long.

Also keep in mind they've paid $350+ for theirs. A 7-inch GPS for $155 shipped is almost unheard of a year ago. This is obviously not the best in its class, but the price makes it very appealing.

I can pretty much say that this is the cheapest deal for a 7" GPS right now. Plus, you get a 2GB SD card.

Interesting deal for a 7" screen but the mixed reviews at Amazon and Newegg plus no built in battery would make me think twice.

Just curious of anyone else noticed the blurb in the last Woot! E-mail?

PS: With football season coming up, I'm pretty excited by what's looming ahead on the schedule for Monday.

Woot-off! perhaps for 08/25/08?

Plus, this isn't any of the refurb crap Woot usually does.

It comes with a 1-year warranty!

To sum it up, there are 3.5" GPS's that are twice as expensive as this.

Keep in mind it's 67 pixels/inch vertically and 79 pixels/inch horizontally, a fairly good pixel density. Also 65,536 colors.

It looks pretty sharp on YouTube.

Got this today, GPS works great, configured to my area very fast picked up signal even faster and the directions took me to work a completely different direction than i usually go, but it chopped off 6 minutes.... so i'd say it was pretty good. The screen is so sexy it's huge and looks great. The audio player's really cool looking too, it's like one of the $700 indash gps/decks i like it, i like it alot
