How to take out the drive from a FreeAgent Go (so you can, for example, use it to upgrade a laptop SATA drive):

Photos and notes

Comments from here by someone who used those photos and description:

The trick was to use the edge of a thin metal ruler to wedge up the seam at the bottom just enough to slide the edge of a credit card into the crack.

The sweet spot is at the front of the case along that seam and on the opposite side of the case from the logo. Applying a surprising amount of pressure was necessary, but that's the one area along the seam that isn't blocked inside the case.

Pushing the card in at that corner popped the first clip. Then I got my fingers into it and popped the other two clips.

Aside from an almost undetectable mark where I used the metal ruler as a lever, the case is pristine.

Right size, right price for me! Thanks OP!

SATA drives, based on some Newegg reviews. $30 to double the space of my Thinkpad (and for an enclosure for the old drive) works for me. Thanks, OP.
