I got one, sent to an address I only ever use for Newegg.com purchases. Did you guys buy one from Newegg? Seems that these guys are buying email addresses from vendors. I'd like to think that's the result of an unethical employee of said vendors, who is about to be promoted to customer.

Posted to my blog at www.taupehat.com/index.php/tech/2008/09/01/newegg_hacked

And yes, I did sign up here just to say this. But I think I might stick around for a while...

Thanks, taupehat, for signing up and mentioning this. I questioned receiving a Buystor email earlier in the thread and suspected it may have been related to Seagate. However, I gave Seagate the same disposable email address that I use for Newegg, so it seems that Newegg is the culprit, not Seagate.

Looks like there is a quick reply, so one does not have to sign up just to post. I just got my first spam ever from buystor. Needless to say it's disappointing after lots of effort to avoid it. I googled and got here, otherwise I know nothing about buystor or this site or anything else.

So far, no reply from Newegg over the spam I received to their unique address...

LOL it looks like Seagate is wasting no time using those email addresses they collected in this fiasco..

Lighten up. They are trying to make good on their screwup, even if we consider it lame. The world doesn't revolve around FatWallet pricing. Many companies would have sent a one-word email that said "cancelled", and that would be the end of it.

As for the issue of free shipping, why don't you call them and find out if they'd be willing to give free shipping? I'll bet if you mention the canceled order fiasco, they might just give free shipping on this drive.

and how is exactly receiving unsolicited emails from a company for an offer at a price that is warm at best even from a local retailer even after they clearly stated they never send such emails "making good on their screwup"? I have no problems with companies cancelling order for pricing errors but there is NO excuse for poor inventory management

BTW the email clearly cites their screwup so they had NO intention of offering free shipping. Otherwise they would have done it in their lame offer. 33% off retail is normal street pricing and an insult to any of their targeted customers. Even at $79.99 they are still making a big profit on this drive. Add to that $8 shipping for a 12oz box is at LEAST another $4 proft for them. LOL they must think they are selling on eBay!

Finally received my 1 (that's qty numero uno) 80GB drive today. And yeah that ridiculous 160GB for $80 email "offer" which sounds ridiculous. I also received internal desktop 160GB SATA last week for $34.95 plus tax and free shipping (ordered day before this deal was posted).

Both are retail packaged new units.

Anyone else actually received the 120GB drive?

6 of mine shipped today via UPS. 3 120 and 3 80

I place two separate orders for 1 x 80 GB drives. I got one cancellation email for one order last week when most folks seemed to get theirs. I got a second one today funny it took a week to show up I would have said they were looking for additional drives but both showed up as canceled last week on the Seagate website.

Greetings All,

My name is Paul and I am a forum administrator for Newegg's community website, EggXpert.com.

I would like to let you know that Newegg is aware of the spam and/or phishing emails that have been sent to some of our customers on behalf of "buystor.com". We have received multiple emails from concerned parties regarding these incidents, especially from customers who use unique email addresses that are only registered to Newegg.com. These spam and/or phishing emails, and the website buystor.com, are in no way affiliated with Newegg or any of its subsidiaries.

We have investigated these reports, and I am happy to inform you that we have found no evidence of leaked or stolen personal information or email addresses from our system.

We take our Privacy Policy very seriously, and we do not sell, rent or distribute customer information or email addresses to any third party. You can access our full privacy policy via this link:

Though we cannot provide a definitive answer to how these emails were sent, we will continue to monitor this situation and take all action possible against those responsible.

Thank you very much for your time and patronage!

Kindest Regards,
Paul

If anyone who reads this message has received spam email from buystor, especially if it was received at an email address that had previously been used only for Newegg transactions, I strongly urge you to contact me.

I can be contacted on EggXpert.com, my User ID there is wyldstallyn.
