Thanks OP! Experts out there. Can Seagate Barracuda 160GB Internal Hard Drives (SATA & Ultra ATA) - $35 shipped be used for the Dish TV PVR Upgrade mentioned here? It says it supports Seagate IDE 7200RPM with ATA-3 support. Is this drive compatible? |

There is no difference. "Portable Hard Drive" == "External hard drive" "External hard drive" is the usual term
And, yes, they will work with both desktops and laptops, although if yoy were planning to carry it with you, you'd probably want one of the 80GB or 120GB 2.5" mini-externals (see other threads here, search for Seagates.)
And now a question: once you open the case and look at the drive itself, does anybody know if these are IDE/PATA or SATA drives? Normal external harddrive needs to plug into wall outlet for power, and the USB is for data transfer only. Portable external drive does NOT need AC supply. The USB port is used for both data transfer and power supply. |

Well, it was great while it lasted. There is one 320GB drive that is still available on the Seagate.com (see Quick Summary) |

Sorry let me try again ... Online status is "In Process". It also doesn't seem to have hit my credit card. |

I finally reached someone. Apparently they got thousands of orders in a short time period and their site shutdown and they don't have inventory to fill all of them. They will send emails within 24 hours whether we get one or not. Ugh. |

Dead - I ordered one over the weekend and my account has no information that the order has processed through their system. So, I called Seagate customer service and they said something to effect of "Oh, yeah, by the way there was a problem with our inventory and you'll be getting an email shortly stating that the order will not be fulfilled." So, even if you ordered one you may not get it. |

Mine canceled too. I need a cheap low-capacity powered USB for my PVR receiver. Any suggestions. |
