There's a link that says "Add to Cart." That's a good place to start.

Can someone help this HD noob figure out whether I can use PATA drives? My MB is old (last BIOS was 05) and I don't know the diff btwn SATA and PATA. Here's the specs on my board.

VIAŽ VT8237 Chipset
- Integrated Faster Ethernet LPC
- Integrated Hardware Sound Blaster/Direct Sound AC97 audio
- Ultra DMA 66/100/133 master mode PCI EIDE controller
- Supports 2 Serial ATA RAID 0/1
- Supports 8 USB2.0 ports
- ACPI

Serial ATA/150 controller integrated by VIAŽ VT8237
- Up ot 150MB/s transfer rate
- Can connect up to 2 serial ATA devices
- Supports RAID 0 or RAID 1

Thanks techie FW's.

Google it like I did

Sata = serial ATA (faster transfer)
Pata = parallel ATA

Your board supports 2 Serial ATA RAID 0/1, therefore you need SATA. Your plugs will also tell you. Google the two cables and you will see very different ends and that will help verify your question.

Seagate killed the 160GB SATA order while it was in my cart and I was entering CC details.
So, I add it back and now it's + $7.99 shipping

He may also have PATA headers on his mobo. My Asus A7N8X Deluxe (for AMD Athlon XP processors) has both. Granted, mine was a home built computer and the board alone ran $150.

The part in BOLD means you can use a PATA drive.

UDMA, EIDE, & PATA (oh my!)

Thanks for the quick responses folks, thought PATA was some new step above SATA.

There was free shipping on everything before, w/o a minimum.

But not anymore

It still said it at the top of the page last night even though once in your cart it was showing a charge for shipping. I think my sister was ordering one and then calling today with a screenshot she took that showed it still said free shipping.

Add one to cart, then update quantity to 10, then reduce down to 5 or more. There is free shipping then.

PATA interface is the flat grey 80 pin ribbons although some folks might use a rounded 80 pin ribbon like the yellow ones in the older DFI mainboards.

SATA is the smaller cables showed here towrds the top of the picture. The plug, when looking at the end, is the shape of a smaller "L."

Also, when I bought my 320GB Seagate I needed to remove the jumper off the back of the hard disk before I installed it to allow for 3.0GB/s speeds. This, however, is not a concern when using PATA drives like this one posted. Just make sure the jumper is in the cable select position on the pins.

Still in stock. Tried two credit cards and both were declined even though they are fine, but maybe it's just a coincidence.
