Not sure why, but they wouldn't (or couldn't) authorize my PayPal payment. I am verified and have a confirmed address. I'll have to try with a new PP account as suggested.

Live is kind of screwy. I had three orders in right now that I am going to have to wait for the week then email and have them fix. And they fixed on last week. Some stores show the CashBack right away, some don't at all.
How did PP fix it for you? I emailed them both yesterday but have not heard back from either PP or OM.

Sarcasm noted. My past contacts with PP have been less than fruitful. Not sure why you consider dealing with PP "the easy way"
does not work, even when all looks correct. ..any "discounts" are deducted before any "credit"... even then no actual $ is later received

At the website TeachaDeal there is a step by step description of using Paypal payment 25% back, a $20 rebate and the $30 gas card to get the Brother HL-2140 for Free. Actually make $5 before tax.
(It starts out at $59.99 - $15 the 20%back from paypal, -20 Rebate -$30 Gas Card = $-5)
I placed an order and it showed in the paypal payment screen as valid for the 25% back,
Sometimes you need to fight a little to get the money back and end up with a free item. Thats all part of the game!

Mine hasn't worked yet either. Paypal is no help, i called them and everything 'looks fine' with my account.
Has anyone had a problem paying via PayPal and getting MS CashBack?
I signed up for the MS CashBack and saw this in their FAQs:
Q: Can I use an alternative payment method (i.e. PayPal, Google Checkout, etc.) when I purchase from the Store and still get my CashBack savings? A: We can't guarantee that your purchase will be reported to us correctly if you use an alternative payment method. We're always looking to improve our service and will continue to work to support other alternative payment methods in the future. Go to top
Was looking at buying the Sony VAIO CR510 laptop that was $799 eariler, now $849. And the Soyo 24" LCD monitor was $249 earlier, now it's $299. Officemax just happened to raise their prices on the high dollar tech items $50 prior to offering this paypal discount. How convenient.
Power111 said: this does not work. Paypal blames officemax & officemax blames Paypal. Its a no go.I must have tried to make a purchase >20 times in the past few days and I spoke to OM and PayPal >20 times. (1) My CC company confirmed that they are repeatedly authorizing PayPal to fulfill the transaction. (2) Finally reached a PP rep who confirmed that PP is getting the authorizations and reconnecting me back to OM. (3) I still get the red 'no go, try a different payment method' message. (4) Spoke to an OM rep who said he knows about the problem and that the company that creates and maintains the OM website is at fault and trying to fix the problem.
I figure they have a few more days to fix it until the deals I want to do expire.
Officemax has now pulled the 25% paypal discount. No longer available on their website that I can find. What a crock of s**t. Officemax raises prices $50 on high dollar items during promo (which happens to be the same as the $50 max discount), then promo doesn't work, then they pull the promo before the advertised ending date.

If its too good to be true ... you know about that .. I had been trying for 4 days to get my order with Office Max to go thru my exsisting PayPal Account for the 25% off. I spent many hours on my computer re-sending the order .. many times on the phone with PayPal and Office Max without success ... I was checking again this AM and than noted that they pulled the deal .... never offering me any kind of alternate way of saving the 25% off ... in my eyes both PayPal and Office Max "@##$%%#$#$%". There now I feel a little better.=(((

guess you don't value your time at more than a few bucks an hour?
Where? on the office Max Home Page or on Paypays page with all the great deals they are participating in.....Here is the link ... it just expains the terms .. OH YA and that this offer can be discontinued at any time .. its not the link between Office Max abd PayPal to link you with the 25% Deal. http://www.paypaldeveloper.com/t5/forums/postpage/board-id/intro Ya think they may they feel bad that they made such nice people like us feel so sad Or they don.t give a fats rats ass.
Custom Note: Thank you for participating in PayPal's Back to School promotion. We've deposited 20% Cash Back into your PayPal account for your recent qualifying PayPal purchase at Office Max. For more details on Cash Back terms, visit
This was from the Verbatim disks on 8/17. Nice surprise hey?
I received mine too but it was calculated on the basis of 20% upto $25.00 But when I placed my officemax.com order, they had already upgraded it to 25% upto $50.00 How do we dispute on this transaction and get the exact CashBack deposited?
I don't know how they figured in my case. I ordered the $20 Verbatim DVDs and somehow, even though they stated a 20% CashBack, they gave me $5.92 - that's 29.6 %.
