Thank you OP!

Since the $50 rebate is good until 9/4 I wonder if they will come out with a new upgrade rebate.

I have a suggestion/thought regarding audio books and mp3 players:

Remember that the mp3 files have 2 different filenames: the old style 8.3 name, and the newer long name. (If you open a command prompt, and do a "DIR /X" on the directory, you'll see both names.) Because they are different, it's very likely that the long names don't sort in the same way that the short names do. I suspect that your mp3 player is playing them in shortname order, which means that you will need to somehow rename the file in the correct order. (One way is download a program to do it. Another way is to select all the files and right click, and rename the first one with a 4 character name, and the rest will be renamed, also.)

Hope it helps.

I'm thinking the name of the file has something to do with that. Are you trying to burn MP3s to a disk? or rip a disk to your PC and then put on an MP3 player?

hopefully Frys will just drop the price down to 50$ after the upg rebate expires... and the rest of us w/o upgrade qualifications can jump onboard

imgburn works good, is easy to use, burns ISO files to disc, is free, and can be found here: http://www.imgburn.com/

I noticed that Buy.com and Amazon don't even list the upgrade rebate.

In for one. Even if I never install it, it will qualify me for next year's version 9 rebate. And it's gonna cost me nothing but two stamps...

I use version 7 at work quite a bit, even though it's a resource hog, my bad-ass work rig can handle it.

I did a rebate on Nero 8 this month at Newegg . This is a different promotion but the rebate says
" limit one per household " ..... is that 1 rebate per lifetime at that household , or 1 per promotion or what ?

Would hate to lose $50 .

Per the 1-800 number on the rebate , it's " per promotion " .

If all you need is a DVD burner program, Essentials is fine.

If you want a lot of newer multimedia features, including full Blu-ray playback support, you want Ultra.

Here's a link to the comparison chart:

P.S. - Click on the "Comparison Chart" tab on that page. May have to scroll down a bit to see it.

Nero Ultra 7 is a resource hog and Ultra 8 is even worse. But for some things, it's essential

For example, I can use Nerovision 3, make fast cut-edits to captured MPEG-2 files, without having to re-render anything, then burn it straight to DVD. The turn-around time is very fast, even on older hardware.

Haven't found anything else that is as efficient and as integrated as Nero Ultra 7 for what I do under Windows. Mac is a different story.
