Went to local Fry's to get free AR EVGA PCIE video card today. They had a pallet of K45 displayed in one of the aisle. I sense another $45 AR deal coming soon. |

Chal2les said:Are you guys making the fan exhaust or intake? Exhaust to pull the air out of the box. That said CPU cooler fan blows air to CPU. Hey I'm only getting 25C max on my Cel D 430 when MB temp is 35C. Running real cool but damn PS fan is too noisy! Even swapped PS from another K45 to see if there is difference but no. Did notice that it's not as loud on simple set-up using on board video vs. PCI video card and using only 1 USB vs. 4 USBs including 802.11G adapter and HDTV tuner. |

I have mine running with the following: E2180 OEM HSF 4GB G Skill 6400 (MOBO limits it to 3GB) 500GB Seagate 100mm Scythe case fan 40mm Scythe PS fan to replace OEM Shuttle 40mm I did change the fan speeds (Medium) in the BIOS before installing the new Scythe's, and I never thought the PS fan was loud. I replaced it because I read that they wear out in a year, and the Scythe has more CFM. The 100mm case fan uses 92mm mounting, but I did need to trim the outer fan ribs near the upper left mounting hole to clear the case rail inside. Sitting idle, I got 32/29 for CPU temps and 59/56 running PCMark05. All before new fans were installed. I did have a Visontek HD2400 Pro card installed which ran 1080p okay with WMP, AVC and AC3filter. VLC player was choppy. I read that someone had better playback with the 945 chipset, so I took the card out and used the VGA out. I can play 1080p through WMP or VLC, no problems!! I still want an HDMI out option, so I'm not sure what to do with that yet. I will be trying a DVico HD card later to see how HDTV playback is. So far I am enjoying the K45, easy to setup and small/unobtrusive is good!! EDIT: Oh yeah, someone asked about posting above 210 on the FSB. I currently am running 250MHz with DRAM set to manual, CAS Lat=4 , DRAM RAS# to CAS# delay=4, DRAM RAS#=Auto, tRAS=Auto, and System Mem Freq=533MHz. This is stable so far, I haven't run my 24hour tests yet, but it is okay at these settings. |

Received rebate yesterday. That was quick and easy. BTW, the rebate check appears very non-descript and different from standard MIR fulfillments. Also, there is no indication inside as to what the MIR is for - there is no mention of Shuttle or the program for which this rebate was generated. But again, these are not complaints - just observations. |

My configuration: Shuttle K45 Pentium dual core E5200 (45nm processor) 200MHz X 12.5 for 2500MHz : currently @ 250MHz X 12.5 = 3125MHz @ Default Voltage 1.15V - Heatsink used is from a Q6700, not the one that came with the E5200. Adata PC2-6400 (400MHz) currently @ 416.7MHz 2x2GB RAM (DDR2 makes it 833.4MHz) - 3.25MB available to 32 bit OS (autodetect FSB) raised voltage from 1.8V to 1.9V One IDE hard drive, no PCI cards Windows XP Professional The CPU was only running a 12X multiplier with the factory BIOS, after BIOS update it's running a 12.5X multiplier. Speedstep lowers the multiplier to 6X when little or no load! To install the OS, I had the IDE hard drive set to master and hooked up an IDE CD-ROM drive as slave on the same cable. This system is being used as a dedicated "Neverwinter Nights 2" server and is running 24 hours 7 days a week. It's very quiet. I'm sure this processor can be pushed much further, but to do so on a 100W powersupply would not be wise. |

Ok I just got my K45 and let me simply start off by saying i have an incredibly limited understanding of computers and whatnot. my unit came with Foresight Linux and its pissing me off. I tried to boot with my WinXP cd but it just sits there and does nothing. So Im thinking of going in now with my Leopard OSX cd and booting with that to see if I can replace the Linux partitions cuz they suck in my opinion. Am I going about this correctly? If not what do I need to do in order to get either Windows or Leopard hooked up on my new K45? |

Did u r k45 come with a harddisk loaded with Linux to beign with? What do u mean by 'it does nothing when tried to boot with WinXP CD'? What type of CD drive are you using internal connected to IDE/SATA or external USB CD drive. Also make sure you check the boot order in the BIOS to make sure the system tries the CD drive |

To answer your questions, yes the K45 came with a harddisk loaded wit Linux to begin with. What i mean when I say nothing happens when I try to boot with my WinXP CD is literally that: nothing happens at all. I boot up my computer, then it goes to the internal IDE CD Drive I installed and sits for a second. Then m prompted to "press any key to boot from CD" and then once I do so, thats where it stops. It goes to a screen where it says its checking my hardware configuration and then goes to a blank screen and stays there for the remainder. It never moves past that screen and never shuts down or anything. It just sits there. I set the boot order in the BIOS to boot the CD Drive first and the HDD second. Any suggestions? |

My only guess is that your Window XP CD does not have the drivers for k45. This may be because your windows XP install CD being old. At what service pack (SP) is your XP installation CD ? IF your XP CD is at SP1 than you might want to slip stream SP3 ( may be SP2 if you want to try either) and see if it works. Google "windows xp cd slipstream sp2 nlite" if you need more info about slipstream. On a different note does the current installed Linux system boot, try download another version of Linux (say Ubuntu) and see if that installation works. This is to make sure that the hardware component and OS are working.

DVD is a slim size like a laptop. Look around and you'll find a slot load one instead of the standrd tray type, for that cool effect. Look at new egg for a new glass front with DVD slot cut out. |
