Best Buy has dropped the price on this Dell model by $50 to $749.99. This deal would be much sweeter with the $100 internet sign up coupon. Credit goes to nexapro at SD.

If anyone gets (or even has the time to go take a look at) one of these, could you verify what the resolution of the LCD is?

The specs show WXGA+ (which would be 1440x900), but I have a feeling that it's a typo and it's really the WXGA (1280x800) screen. If this really is the higher resolution screen, then I think that I may have a laptop to return!

Or $549.99 if you have a $200 Best Buy gift card to burn. Can we please stop with putting the internet sign up in the deals?

Unless I'm mistaken, it's a discount if you sign up for internet access.

Every time I go to Best Buy to take advantage of a good deal, I get a friendly reminder of why I hate that store and never go there (besides FW deals).

I wanted to get 3 laptops. In the first Best Buy I went to, the guy told me I can only buy 1 because it is on sale. I assume this is a BB policy. Great policy! So is this like sale items in general at Best Buy? It's not like I had a coupon that said "limit 1 item". WTF?

In the second BB I went to, I practically had to argue with the guy for him to check for this laptop in their system. He was absolutely positively sure that they did not have a black Dell Studio 15 that costs $749. So then he checked and found out that he's an idiot.

I need one more laptop, but I'm starting to think that it's not worth the hassle of dealing with these morons.

BTW, what am I missing here.... The OP wrote that the price dropped by $50. Was this laptop $799 before? It looks like the same loptops in different colors (blue or pink) cost $979. To upgrade from black to color at Dell costs $25. At Best Buy it apparently costs $230.....

Is this a good deal? I'm in the market for a new laptop for my wife.

They limit numbers because some people like whom sweep all the good deals and leave no chance to even see them for others.

So you're saying they care so much about their customers and they want everyone to have the opportunity to buy the sale item?

I guess that explains why these sale items are usually limited to approx. 5 units per store....

This isn't playtime at kindergarden where you learn to share your toys. They are a retail business! If I need 3 laptops for my business and I find them at a decent price I should be able to buy them. They should be happy to sell them to me, becuase that is how they make their money!

The bottom line is that BB will find a way to scam their customers one way or another...

We went to the store and asked them to look up this lappy and was told that they had 3 for $799.99.
I then called back to see if they are willing to match the online price but was told that they are totally out of stock.
You can still order for delivery with a charge of $20.

Q: is this current configuration good enough to order online? or to wait until tomorrow for Labor Day weekend sale?

Probably because the dude buying 3 computers isn't going to be buying off their big money makers like accessories marked up 100% or their Geek Squad services (though to be honest, I haven't heard of them trying to sell "removal services" when you initially buy the computer like CC does...).

Sale is over. Now back to $980.

Exactly, they are a retail business.

They don't care about you, and they don't make money by selling measly 3 laptops to you.

Just because they don't operate as you wanted, that doesn't make it a scam. Since you run your business, you should know how business work.

You wouldn't want to deal with customers like you, would you?

I don't know why its so difficult for you to figure out, but this is the easiest $100 discount offer ever.

Funny thing is I called to follow up on the install for a friend who wanted the service, and they had no record of the signup. Problems on both sides.

I don't see any offer for Comcast and a $100 discount.

I see a bunch of crap for qwest....

Also, to the guy complaining about them not selling him 3 laptops.
These sales are designed to get customer traffic. Their hope is that a bunch of people will come in to purchase the laptop and then upgrade(for a slightly higher price). These are known as "traffic" items. Their price point is low to encourage traffic into the store.
This tactic is used in a lot of retail. Think of it as the same thing as a "Free giveaway". They give you something for free(at a loss) to get you to come in their store. They are typically making a very low profit or none on these items.
