Is this a good deal? I need 4 fans for bed room/study room.

Why does this link through shoplocal.com instead of straight to homedepot.com?

the home depot link is here: Linky

...and it doesn't appear to be on sale. ?

OP said it's B&M (brick and mortar, i.e. in the physical store). Must not be on sale online as well.

be sure to use the balancing kit if included in the box. Hunter quality has gone down the tubes and the fan wobbles at high speed

It is in today's flyer (Aug 28th). I believe it is on Sale, because I haven't seen a Hunter fan w/ Light kit having $70 as a regular price (I may be wrong on this, as the flyer doesn't say the "Was $xx" part on this).

I'd take your fan back. Sounds like it may be defective. I just installed 3 fans, all Hunters, and didn't use any of the balancers. I have never used balancers with Hunter fans. I swayed from Hunter once and bought a Hampton Bay, and yes, it wobbled horribly at all speeds and the balancing kit did not help.

I haven't installed fans. It's a new house and not sure whether brackets are mounted on the ceiling. What is required? Thanks.

It's a decent price for a fan, but I've seen this one there for the same price a couple of times. I don't know if it's just the normal price, or if it goes on sale alot. IIRC there's a silver too.

If you didn't specify that fans were going to be mounted it's a good chance the electrical box is just nailed to the stud and will not support a fan. You need to buy a fan brace and box to replace the existing one. It's a bit of work but not to bad.

If there was no ceiling fan there before you probably only have a mounting bracket for a light fixture. Ceiling fan manufacturers recommend installing a bracket specifically for ceiling fans (they are built to support the additional weight of the fan). Or, if you have access to the ceiling from above just secure a 2x4 between the joists. The ceiling fan (electrical) box can be mounted to this.

I've installed several ceiling fans and not one of them wobbles. I always use a ceiling fan bracket or the 2x4. Hope this helps.

On many new houses the brackets are already installed in the ceiling in rooms where a fan might eventually be installed. Cross you fingers or you may have to purchase brackets to install the fans. I've bypassed the brackets in some cases and bolted the fan directly into a 2x stud in the ceiling.

I installed 7 ceiling fans (all Hunter) in my new house last year. All the rooms were pre-wired, and Junction box already installed. It was simple.

The instructions/Manual in the box clearly explained how to do. You can also google (here is one).

I didn't have to balance my hunter fans as they don't wobble. I think it is a good price for Hunter fan w/light kit.

My friend who bought a house at the same time, and bought expensive Hampton Bay fans(>$200). They all wobble.

What kind of light bulbs does the fan use? It seems nowadays most fans are going to the candelabra or some other non-standard bulbs.

Agreed. We have one hunter and two monte carlos and I had to balance the monte carlos not the hunter...and the hunter is whisper quiet. Both other ones, albiet more expensive are noisy

All my Hunter fans that I bought last year came with Candelabra base. I hope this too.

I think there was some discussion about this is another thread. Rumor has it our great gov't passed a law requiring fan manufacturers include fluorescent light bulbs with all new fan kits (regular base bulb). So manufacturers immediately dumped the reg. base bulb in all fans to get around the new regulation. Just a rumor, though.

Call Hunter and they will send you a new set of balanced blades.

Hunter quality is superb. I buy their factory renewed fans for my houses off of eBay resellers. I recently installed four beautiful and perfectly balanced 70" Hunter fans in my current house for $130-$140 shipped each.

With regards to this deal... I think that 46" fans are really small. The factory renewed fans are just as good as new and carry the same warranty.

This was a disappointment to me. Two of my fans I installed with light kits. I used adapters to go to a regular base so I could use 100watt equivalent CFL's. I had to get a longer threaded tube to make the canopy lower to accommodate them.
