Does anyone know what wireless chipset this model might have or what wireless chipset Gateway typically uses?

Discontinued model, availability is going to be iffy.

Why wouldn't it be available if the sale doesn't start until 8/31?

Could be because :
1. Teaser Item - Stores are given 3 or so to satisfy the ad to get you in the store, only to tell you they're sold out but happen to have a much better item on clearance for only $954
or

2. Discontinued item - one of those YMMV items, although it would be weird to put such a YMMV old stock item on the front page - doing so would cause a bit of a common but always avoidable ruckus

Retracted.

The math is wrong somewhere, or it's a complicated transaction.
Actually, this may be a YMMV. I just picked up one at my local store in Atlanta and they had 20 more in stock. I will do a return-rebuy on Sunday. The math is fine as well - the in store price today is $729.99. After a $125 instant saving, you pay $605.99 (+ tax) - $125 rebate = $479.99.

how do you find which store has it?

Go online, click on the shopping cart, choose store pickup, give your zip code, then choose the store. Then search for the SKU and try adding to the cart. This is not a very accurate method, best way is to go to the store and check on the in store computer.

Where is the magical $125 rebate?

Rebate form - form doesn't specify that the purchase must be made in store but the weekly circular does say "in store only". Note that the sale starts on Sunday, Aug 31 and the special laptop price is valid only on Sunday & Monday.

Sale starts tomorrow.

The rebate form says: 3. For online or telephone purchases, you must include a copy of the UPC.
So the rebate is good if purchased online but will they have the instant discount available if purchased online?

If the sale price is valid online, then yes. My concern is that the circular very clearly says "in store only".

I believe the rebate is good for B&M purchases, but a copy of the UPC must be submitted for online, phone orders.

But is the rebate valid for online purchases? The rebate form and the circular are in conflict.

The question is if it will be available online for the instore price - won't know until Sunday.
